The merchant’s counter and high skylight
This city-designated cultural property is understood to combine a mid-Edo house with early-Meiji additions. The entrance business counter displays desks and chests used in trading. A skylight added in the Meiji remodelling rises about three metres above the ceiling, demonstrating how light reached the house’s interior.
Garden sounds, history displays and storehouses
The garden’s suikinkutsu produces resonant sounds as drops fall into an inverted underground jar; it is recognised among Japan’s one hundred soundscapes. The rear history museum covers local history, culture and buildings. The Udatsu storehouse explains fire walls, while the Niwaka storehouse introduces Mino Nagashi Niwaka local performance.
Winter Tuesday closures and the current calendar
October–March closing is 16:00, with entry by 15:45. Regular Tuesday closures apply December–February; March–November follows post-holiday and other calendar closures. Closed November 4 and 24, 2026, and December 28–January 3, 2027. The Akari Art Museum also closes Tuesdays outside winter, so match both calendars when using a combined ticket.
Visit from the historic district with a combined ticket
Walk about fifteen minutes from Mino-shi Station or drive ten minutes from Mino IC and use Kanko Fureai Hiroba parking. Admission is ¥300 for senior-high pupils and older visitors, or ¥250 in groups of twenty or more. Two-museum tickets cost ¥400 with the Akari Art Museum; three cost ¥800 including the outlying Paper Museum. Allow time for the house, garden sounds and rear exhibits.
Combine sights, meals and local travel
Pair the merchant residence with a historic-house stay and seasonal food at Asadaya, which requires reservations at both services and latest dinner entry at 19:00. Tono-machi parking requests a ¥100 contribution for up to two hours. Fit the residence around its seasonal closing time and annual closure calendar.
