下呂発温泉博物館｜温泉の科学と文化を学ぶ

下呂発温泉博物館は、温泉が湧く仕組みや泉質、各地の温泉文化を科学と文化の両面から紹介する専門博物館です。展示を見て、温泉街の成り立ちや湯の性質を知ることができます。

Gero Onsen Museum is a specialist museum introducing how hot springs form, their characteristics and the culture surrounding them. Its exhibits explore both the science of hot water and the history of bathing traditions.

温泉のしくみを科学から見る

展示では温泉の湧き出す仕組みや泉質、地下の熱水がつくる鉱物などを紹介しています。温泉水のpHや塩分を調べる体験コーナーもあり、温泉を身近な自然現象として学べます。

温泉地の道具と文化を知る

温泉地の湯番道具や飲泉カップ、各地の湯の花、温泉番付などを展示しています。温泉を利用してきた人々の道具や記録を通じて、入浴だけではない温泉地の文化に触れられます。

開館時間・休館日・入館料

開館は9時から17時、最終入館は16時30分です。木曜日が休館で、祝日に当たる場合は翌日が休館日になります。入館料は中学生以上400円、小学生200円、幼児は大人の付き添いで無料です。

温泉街から徒歩で訪れる

博物館は湯之島543-2にあり、JR下呂駅から徒歩約8分です。館の向かいに中央駐車場があり、駐車券を持参して入館すると1時間無料、その後は20分ごとに100円です。

Understand hot springs through science

Exhibits explain how hot springs emerge, the characteristics of different waters and minerals formed by underground heat. A hands-on corner lets visitors test pH and salinity, presenting hot springs as natural phenomena.

Discover the culture and objects of hot-spring towns

The collection includes bathhouse tools, drinking cups, mineral deposits from hot springs and rankings of hot-spring destinations. Objects and records show how people have used hot springs beyond bathing.

Opening hours, closing day and admission

The museum opens 9:00–17:00, with last admission at 16:30. It closes on Thursdays, or the following day when Thursday is a public holiday. Admission is ¥400 for junior-high pupils and older, ¥200 for elementary pupils, and free for preschool children accompanied by an adult.

Walk from the hot-spring district

The museum is at 543-2 Yunoshima, about an eight-minute walk from JR Gero Station. Central Car Park is across the street; visitors who bring their parking ticket receive one free hour, followed by a charge of ¥100 per 20 minutes.
