From a preserved kiln to tiles from around the world
The Kiln Plaza preserves a kiln, factory building and chimney from Tokoname’s pipe industry. The Tile Museum holds decorative tiles from ancient times to the modern era, while the Architectural Terracotta Museum displays tiles and terracotta. The Toilet Culture Museum traces changes in Japanese toilets and their surrounding spaces, linking everyday life with technology.
Reserve the polished clay ball workshop separately
The approximately 60-minute workshop involves shaping, colouring and polishing a clay ball and costs ¥1,200 per ball. Reserve in advance. Elementary-school pupils and younger children need a guardian; preschool children make their ball together with an adult. One accompanying person may enter per participant. Check in at the central reception at least ten minutes before the start. Workshop-only visitors need no exhibition ticket, while gallery visits require separate admission.
Architectural ceramics exhibition opens October 31
From October 31, 2026 to April 6, 2027, the Clay Works special gallery is scheduled to present an exhibition on made-to-order architectural ceramics. Included in common admission, it introduces eleven projects, from restoration tiles to ceramic panels for modern buildings. This exhibition alone also closes December 21–25. The whole museum closes December 26–January 4, while the Wednesdays of January 6 and 13, 2027 are listed as open.
Free parking and practical gallery arrangements
Lots 1 and 2 provide eighty free car spaces, with a hilltop lot used when busy. Five coach spaces need advance booking. The nearest Chita Bus stop is INAX Live Museum-mae. The museum shop and restaurant can be used without an exhibition ticket. Food and drink are prohibited in the galleries; packed lunches can be eaten in the first-floor rest area of the Toilet Culture Museum or on the Clay Works terrace.
Combine Tokoname sights, stays, dining and parking
Combine museum time with a town stay at Spring Sunny Hotel Nagoya Tokoname and lunch at Maruichi Local Fish and Eel. For a later Sakae-machi walk, Pottery Footpath Parking is an option. The museum and walking district use different parking locations, so allow a transfer after exhibits or activities and plan around restaurant last orders.
