Compare shallow/deep-water life, then visit frozen specimens upstairs
Shallow/deep-water comparisons place creatures with similar features in different tanks. Follow the Suruga Bay tank and Deep Sea Planetarium featuring flashlight fish to compare forms and habitats. The first part of the second-floor Coelacanth Museum holds two frozen and three mounted specimens; it is not a tank of living coelacanths. Add swimming footage, internal specimens and discovery materials. Immersive Deep Sea World, opened in July 2025, uses moving images, models and mounted specimens. Separate observing living animals from the audiovisual experience when choosing the visit.
Choose age-based admission and certificate/group discounts
General admission is ¥2,200 high-school pupils and older, ¥1,200 elementary/junior-high pupils and ¥600 preschool children aged four and older; junior-high pupils use the child category. Proof of age gives visitors 65 and older ¥200 off. Disability-certificate rates are ¥2,000 / ¥1,000 / ¥400, without combining other discounts. Groups of at least 20 use the same reduced rates but need advance telephone/fax booking, which may be unavailable during busy periods. Advance tickets are not sold; ordinary visitors use on-day reception. A same-day ticket’s 10% discount at participating Minato 83 stores does not extend to every nearby restaurant.
Match earlier November opening to flapjack-octopus display availability
November 1, 3 and 21, 2026 are scheduled to open at 09:30, and November 22–23 at 09:00. Earlier entry needs earlier transport and parking arrival rather than a uniform 10:00 start. Add admission queues and shopping to the 40 minutes–one hour guideline; last reception at 17:30 does not leave a full hour before closing.
Guidance checked October 14, 2026 says flapjack octopuses are not currently displayed, with resumption after capture. The autumn-to-spring fishing season does not guarantee an exhibit. Living-animal displays change with condition and capture; check the travel-day status if one species is the main purpose, combining specimens and footage in the visit.
Separate lift access, photography and outside breaks
Wheelchair visitors can use the lift to reach the second floor. Free loan wheelchairs can be reserved by enquiry but may already be in use. No stroller loans are available. A multipurpose toilet inside and one outside provide changing tables. Do not use flash for deep-sea animals and follow individual tanks’ no-photography signs. Eating, smoking and pet-accompanied entry are not permitted. There are no indoor lockers; paid lockers at Minato 83’s tourist-information corner can separate luggage from the exhibit visit around food and shopping stops.
Connect port food and paid parking to station-area lodging
Choose Uogashi Maruten Minato Store, Minato 83 Second Parking and Numazu Riverside Hotel. The aquarium and Maruten are in the port area; the hotel is by the Kano River south of the station, not on the same plot. From the station’s south exit, allow approximately 15 minutes by bus or five–ten by taxi, plus waiting and walking. Second-lot rates vary by day, August and 17:00. Maruten normally closes Thursdays and ends orders at 19:30. Match last aquarium admission, meals and transport back towards the station.
