Nikko Municipal Nishisando Parking No. 1 serves the shrine-and-temple district across Yasukawacho and Sannai. No. 1 lists 24-hour use and 73 spaces, while No. 2 opens 8:00–17:00. Passenger-car charges of ¥700 ordinarily or ¥1,000 in busy periods apply per day/per entry, not an all-day pass for repeated exits and returns. Check spring/autumn busy periods, two-wheeler and large-vehicle categories, planning the walk back and payment separately from ryokan or restaurant offers.

Distinguish No. 1, No. 2 and Toshogu’s own parking
The ordinance names this facility Nikko City Nishisando Parking No. 1 at 2282-1 Yasukawacho and 2286-1 Sannai. The official 2026 tariff reference lists No. 1 as 24 hours/73 spaces and No. 2 as 8:00–17:00. Neither No. 2 nor Toshogu’s own lot is simply another entrance to the same facility. Match the destination to maps and entrance signs, allowing for congestion or full capacity. Listed capacity does not guarantee a space, and 24-hour use does not rule out temporary whole/partial closure for repairs or management.
Separate per-day/per-entry charges from re-entry
Passenger, small and kei vehicles excluding two-wheelers cost ¥700 ordinarily or ¥1,000 in busy periods per day/per entry. This is entry-count-based charging, not a ticket for free same-day re-entry after driving elsewhere. The ordinance ordinarily collects entry-based charges on arrival. For a long shrine-and-meal visit, do not reinterpret it as a 30-minute tariff or a 24-hour-from-entry cap. Check overnight use and actual payment procedures against the operator’s on-site instructions.
Read spring and autumn busy periods by weekday ranges
Busy periods run from the fourth Saturday in April to the second Sunday in May, and from the first Saturday in August to the third Sunday in November. Weekdays and dates before peak foliage still incur the ¥1,000 passenger-car charge within those ranges. The latter 2026 range is August 1–November 15, so October 13 is not in the ordinary ¥700 period. Recalculate the named weekends for your travel year instead of treating only a few holiday dates as busy. Check entrance notices for tariff changes or temporary arrangements.
Check two-wheelers, larger vehicles and reductions
The ordinance’s two-wheeler tariff is ¥350 ordinarily or ¥500 in busy periods per day/per entry. Minibuses, large buses and trucks have separate categories, but a tariff category does not guarantee acceptance for every vehicle or date. Check dimensions, weight, space and any booking requirement for large, loaded or unusual vehicles with the Nikko tourism section at 0288-53-3795 beforehand. Confirm reduction eligibility and procedure rather than assuming a disability certificate or shrine ticket makes parking universally free.
Match shrine reception with separate ryokan and restaurant parking
Nikko Toshogu ends winter reception at 15:30; 24-hour parking does not extend admission. Parking for lodging/dining guests at Nikko Senhime Monogatari and the 80-space facility lot at Meiji-no-Yakata have separate terms. Do not assume their offers automatically apply to a car parked here. Coordinate Yasukawacho–Sannai walks, steps, lunch waiting and nighttime return. A Kinugawa/Oku-Nikko visit requires separate transport and travel time beyond this local circuit.
