A great camphor tree and a shrine to land and sea
Oyamazumi-no-Kami is revered as a deity of mountains, the sea and navigation. Tradition attributes the planting of the sacred camphor tree, around 2,600 years old, to Ochi-no-Mikoto. The shrine’s camphor grove is a national Natural Monument, and the approach from the main gate passes the great trunk and branches.
Muromachi-period halls and maritime devotion
The main and worship halls were rebuilt in the early Muromachi period and are nationally designated Important Cultural Properties. The main hall has a flowing nagare-style roof, while the worship hall has a gabled roof and curved entrance canopy, both roofed in cypress bark. Maritime warriors also revered the shrine; its crest was used by the Kono and Kurushima Murakami families.
Armour and swords in the treasure museum
Armour, helmets and swords are preserved in the treasure museum, with Shiyoden, the National Treasure Hall and maritime museum in the precinct. Treasure-museum admission is separate: ¥1,000 adults, ¥800 high-school and university students, ¥400 primary and junior-high pupils. Hours are 09:00–16:30, last entry 16:00. Masks are requested inside the treasure museum because of its facilities. This admission cutoff differs from the shrine gates’ 17:00 closing.
Miyaura’s approach and the road from Omishima IC
The shrine is at 3327 Miyaura, Omishima-cho, about seven kilometres from Omishima IC. Thirteen spaces stand beside the torii, with additional parking available at nearby Omishima Fuji Park. An express bus route from Imabari Station toward Miyaura takes around sixty-five minutes to Oyamazumi-Jinja-mae. Allow time for both a walk through the grounds and the treasure museum.
Other stops to combine within Imabari
Imabari extends from its mainland centre across islands including Oshima, Hakatajima and Omishima. These suggestions include other parts of the city, so allow bridge or boat travel between islands. Oshima-minami Interchange serves arrivals from Shikoku and Oshima-kita those from Honshu. For ferry-served Ushima or car-restricted Umashima, coordinate sailings or reserved transfers with accommodation arrival times.
