和歌山城｜天守閣410円と庭園・御橋廊下、坂道と12月9日の休館

虎伏山の上に白い天守閣が立つ和歌山城。山上の眺めを目指す散策と、麓の庭園や御橋廊下を巡る歩き方を組み合わせられます。現在の天守は1958年に復元された建物です。天守への坂道、庭園の16時45分受付締切、天守だけが休む日を分けて、歩く範囲と順番を選べます。

復元天守と、残る城門・石垣を見比べる

天守閣は1945年の空襲で焼失し、1958年に鉄筋コンクリートで外観を復元した建物です。山上からの眺めを楽しんだ後は、城主の時代ごとに積み方が異なる石垣にも目を向けられます。岡口門と北側の土塀は空襲を免れた遺構で、国の重要文化財。天守の復元建築と、残った門や土塀を区別すると、城を歩く見方が広がります。

大人410円と、小中学生の土曜無料を確認する

天守閣の一般入場は大人410円、小・中学生200円です。毎週土曜は小・中学生が無料になりますが、大人は通常料金です。30人以上の団体には人数に応じた割引、対象の手帳等には本人や介護人1人の免除条件があります。券は天守前の券売所か、わかやま歴史館2階で購入できます。歴史館の展示室は別の料金・共通券の案内なので、見る施設を選んで券種を確かめてください。

庭園と御橋廊下は、16時45分までに入る

西之丸庭園は斜面と内堀を生かした大名庭園で、紅葉渓庭園とも呼ばれます。御橋廊下は二の丸と西の丸をつなぐ、傾斜のある屋根付きの橋で、2006年の復元です。どちらも無料で9～17時、入場は16時45分まで。天守の17時受付と同じではありません。庭園と橋は12月29～31日が休みで、茶室や動物園にはそれぞれ別の時間・休業条件があります。

坂道の歩行を見込み、12月9日は天守以外を選ぶ

天守への道は表坂約300m・70段、裏坂約225m・79段、新裏坂約130m・102段の案内です。距離が短い新裏坂は急で、表坂が最も緩やかとされています。城前へ着く時間と、山上まで登る時間を分けて組んでください。2026年12月9日は一斉清掃で天守が終日休館します。告知は動物園や紅松庵等を通常どおり運営するとしており、公園全体の閉鎖ではありません。

城の駐車と、JR駅周辺の宿・中華そばを合わせる

七番丁の市営中央駐車場は城周辺へ車で来る候補で、天守までの登りは別に必要です。JR和歌山駅近くのホテルグランヴィア和歌山と、田中町の井出商店へは城からの移動を見込めます。天守・庭園の最終入場と宿の到着、木曜以外の中華そばを合わせて、一日の順番を選べます。

Wakayama Castle’s white keep stands on Torafusuyama hill. Combine an uphill visit for views with walks through the garden and covered bridge below. The present keep was reconstructed in 1958. Choose your route around the climb, the garden’s 16:45 entry deadline and dates when only the keep closes.

Compare the reconstructed keep with surviving gates and stone walls

The keep burned in the 1945 air raid and its exterior was reconstructed in reinforced concrete in 1958. After hilltop views, compare stone walls built under different castle lords. Okaguchimon Gate and the wall to its north survived the raid and are designated Important Cultural Properties. Distinguish the reconstructed keep from these surviving structures.

Check adult ¥410 admission and free Saturday entry for school pupils

Standard keep admission is ¥410 for adults and ¥200 for elementary/junior-high pupils. Pupils enter free on Saturdays; adults pay the usual fee. Groups of at least 30 have size-based discounts, and qualifying certificates have holder and one-carer exemption conditions. Buy tickets at the keep or on the history museum’s second floor. Its exhibition has separate admission and combined-ticket options; select the facilities first.

Enter the garden and covered bridge by 16:45

Nishinomaru Garden uses the hillside and inner moat and is also called Momijidani Garden. The sloping covered bridge links Ninomaru and Nishinomaru and was reconstructed in 2006. Both are free, open 09:00–17:00 with last entry at 16:45, earlier than the keep’s 17:00 deadline. Both close December 29–31; the teahouse and zoo follow separate schedules.

Allow for the climb and choose other facilities on December 9

The listed keep routes are Omotezaka about 300m/70 steps, Urazaka 225m/79 steps and Shin-Urazaka 130m/102 steps. The shortest is steepest; Omotezaka is gentlest. Allow uphill time after reaching the castle. The keep closes all day December 9, 2026 for cleaning; the notice says facilities such as the zoo and Koshoan operate as usual. The whole park is not closed.

Connect castle parking with a hotel and ramen near JR Wakayama Station

In Shichibancho, Municipal Central Parking is a driving option near the castle; the climb to the keep remains separate. Allow travel to Hotel Granvia Wakayama by JR Wakayama Station and Ide Shoten in Tanaka-machi. Coordinate keep and garden last entry, hotel arrival and ramen outside the shop’s Thursday closure.
