Explore waka poetry and the To clan
The Waka Literature Museum introduces poetry from the Manyoshu to modern times, including a thirty-six-metre illustrated Kokin Wakashu scroll. The To Clan Memorial Museum displays excavated objects and documents about poetic transmission; the Yamato cultural-property museum contains local archaeological finds and historical documents. The Yamato Bunko poetry library can also be used free.
Walk through gardens and waterside architecture
The nationally designated To clan residence garden preserves the remains of a medieval warrior’s garden. Waterside Shinowaki Sanso opens to the public free when not privately booked. Personal non-commercial hobby photography needs no application; professional sessions such as wedding portraits require an application at least two weeks ahead. Inaohosedori tea house is currently closed.
Free admission, current hours and exhibition
Admission to the three main exhibition museums became free on April 1, 2026. Hours are 10:00–16:00, closed Tuesdays or the next weekday when Tuesday is a public holiday, plus December 29–January 3. The Waka Literature Museum exhibition on the history of Gujo poetry from Kokin transmission to the present runs through March 31, 2027, with entry requested by 15:30.
