Yoshida Castle’s stone walls and earthworks survive in Toyohashi Park beside the Toyokawa River. Its visual landmark is the turret reconstructed in 1954, combining riverside scenery with a walk around castle remains. The site connects with eastern Mikawa’s history through Sakai Tadatsugu, appointed by Ieyasu, and Ikeda Terumasa, who developed the castle town.

The riverside castle and reconstructed turret
The castle was contested during the Warring States period. After Ieyasu moved to the Kanto region, Ikeda Terumasa expanded the site and developed the surrounding town. Stone walls and earthworks around the main enclosure survive within Toyohashi Park, with the turret reconstructed in 1954 standing beside the river. A walk combines views of the structure with the castle’s use of the terrain.
Marked stones and the main enclosure
Look for marked stones near the southern entrance to the main enclosure and around the steps descending toward the Toyokawa River. Some marked granite was reused from surplus Nagoya Castle stone, adding another layer of history to the walls. The remains reveal a layout with the main, second and third enclosures arranged against the Toyokawa and Asakura rivers.
Turret visits finish at 15:00; another stamp location is available
The turret opens free from 10:00 to 15:00, closing Mondays and during the year-end holiday, while public-holiday Mondays open. The same Continued Top 100 Japanese Castles stamp is available both inside the turret and at the Tezutsu Fireworks Experience Park on City Hall East Building’s thirteenth floor. The latter is listed as open 8:00–21:30 without regular closure days. Outdoor viewing and turret entry therefore have different time limits.
Take the city tram to Shiyakusho-mae
From JR or Meitetsu Toyohashi Station, take the city tram for around ten minutes to Shiyakusho-mae, then walk about five minutes. Allow time within the park to reach the turret and stone walls. The nearby art and history museum is a separate facility with its own displays, admission and closure rules. Plan around the turret’s 15:00 closing and add a riverside walk before or afterwards.
Other places to visit in Toyohashi
Combine a walk from the castle into town with a stay in Fudagi-cho at Dormy Inn Express Toyohashi and eel dishes at Unagi Maruyo. Toyohashi Ekichika Parking is an option for parking near Toyohashi Station before taking a tram. Arrange the day around the turret’s 15:00 closing, meal hours and hotel plans.
