Sanwa Hakatajima Honten serves salt ramen developed on Hakatajima, an island with a salt-making history. Clear broth, fine straight noodles and nori define the bowl. The Kinoura main restaurant moved across from its former premises in 2015, and now provides counter and table seating with parking for a stop while touring the island.

From salt fields to a restaurant and ramen
The owner’s parents opened Sanwa Shokudo in 1971 after Hakatajima’s salt fields closed. The salt ramen was completed in 1998, the year before the Shimanami Kaido fully opened, aiming to express the calm Seto Inland Sea through flavour. The present main restaurant opened across from the old premises on 27 May 2015. It is separate from the Imabari-kita Interchange branch.
Broth drawing flavour from seventeen ingredients
Pork bones, chicken bones, dried sardines, kelp and other ingredients—seventeen in total—are simmered in a broad pan, with Hakata salt drawing out their flavour. The method was inspired by clear fish soup, including salting ingredients to remove excess moisture before making stock. The intention is a light broth shaped by its ingredients rather than simply a strong salty taste.
Fine straight noodles and nori
The specially ordered noodles are fine and straight so that the broth clings to them. Nori adds a sea aroma as the bowl is eaten. Six counter seats and thirty-three table seats accommodate solo diners and groups. The restaurant bowl and the take-home or mail-order products offer different ways to enjoy the ramen.
Main-restaurant hours and access
After leaving Hakatajima Interchange, turn left and continue about six kilometres toward Kinoura. Eleven parking spaces are provided. Usual hours are 11:00–19:00, shortened to 17:00 on Wednesdays, with Sunday closing. Match an island-travel itinerary to these day-specific hours. Allow time for the Kinoura detour when continuing across the islands.
Other stops to combine within Imabari
Imabari extends from its mainland centre across islands including Oshima, Hakatajima and Omishima. These suggestions include other parts of the city, so allow bridge or boat travel between islands. Oshima-minami Interchange serves arrivals from Shikoku and Oshima-kita those from Honshu. For ferry-served Ushima or car-restricted Umashima, coordinate sailings or reserved transfers with accommodation arrival times.
