Use during daytime visiting hours
Free parking is available from 09:00 to 17:00. Keep the visit within this window and allow time to return to your vehicle. On a longer road trip, consider seeing the exhibition before exploring the shrine so that museum admission fits comfortably into the stop.
Driving from either interchange
Both Hitoyoshi IC and Hitoyoshi Kuma Smart IC are about five minutes away. Set your destination to Aoi Aso Shrine and its museum at 118 Kamiaoimachi. Driving from Shin-Yatsushiro Station takes around forty-five minutes. Follow the facility’s parking directions and watch for people walking to the shrine.
Set aside the museum admission fee
Parking is free, but museum admission costs ¥500 for high-school age and older, or ¥300 for younger schoolchildren. Groups of ten or more receive ten percent off. The museum opens daily 09:00–17:00, last entry 16:30. Two adults visiting the exhibition pay ¥1,000 in admission and no parking fee.
Walk to historic and modern timber buildings
After parking, combine the shrine’s thatched buildings with the modern timber museum. The museum has accessible interiors and an elevator to the second floor, but does not lend wheelchairs. Plan the visit around your companions’ walking pace and leave time to return before parking closes.
