This is the municipal lot nearest the summit for a car-based visit to Kanayama Castle. From Nishijo, visitors continue on foot through ridge-top remains rather than driving into the castle's core. It provides a distinct starting point from the exhibition centre at the foot of the hill.

Free P7 at the road end in Nishijo
Kanayama Motor Pool is free municipal P7 at the end of Kanayama-Joshi Prefectural Road in hilltop Nishijo. It has toilets and is identified by the city as the lot closest to the summit. Ota Station's north exit is around 4.6 kilometres away by that road, or twelve minutes by taxi. After parking, continue along ridge paths or the paved management road to the castle core. Its starting point differs from the longer climbs beginning at the foothill.
Time for stonework and castle ponds
Allow one to one-and-a-half hours for the main round trip from Nishijo, or two to three hours for a detailed visit. Remains include Nishi-Yaguradai, the lower riding-ground passage, lookout, Tsuki-no-Ike, main fortified entrance, Hi-no-Ike, Minami-Kuruwa and the inner castle. Built in 1469 and abandoned in 1590, the mountain castle is notable for stone walls and paving. Mitsuke-Demaru lies about three minutes in the opposite direction from the inner castle.
The castle stamp is in the hilltop shelter
The Japan Top 100 Castles stamp is inside the Minami-Kuruwa rest shelter in Nakajima Memorial Park near the summit. It is roughly 600 metres along the ridge, or fifteen minutes each way by the parallel paved management road. The stamp location is listed as open year-round, but walking depends on daylight. The city notes sunset around 16:30 in November–December and no lighting in the hills. The foothill guidance centre does not hold this stamp.
Distinguishing foothill parking and trail access
P6 at the foothill guidance centre is reserved for its visitors and is separate from hilltop P7. Drivers visiting both should distinguish the two destinations. A July 24, 2026 city notice states that the trail gate connecting to Gunma Kodomo-no-Kuni is closed following heavy rain. That gate restriction is not a closure of all Kanayama parking. Distinguish exploration of the principal castle remains from trails extending in other directions when choosing an entrance.
