Architecture inspired by castle walls
Opened on May 30, 2009 at the southern foot of Kanayama, the centre adjoins the municipal community centre. Kengo Kuma designed both buildings, using exterior stone slabs that evoke the castle's masonry. Architecture and historical displays can be enjoyed together. As the centre stands below the hilltop ruins, it works either as an introduction before climbing or as a place to connect objects and archaeological results with remains already seen outdoors.
Models tracing about 120 years of castle history
The guidance room presents roughly 120 years of castle history in chronological order, followed anticlockwise. Aerial photographs, excavation information, finds and explanatory panels describe the site. Four dioramas reconstruct key historical episodes from documentary evidence, making phases of construction and alteration easier to grasp. Sengoku Theater and the controller-operated virtual Castle Navi experience are suspended, so models and physical exhibits form the focus of a current visit.
Route maps and the information salon
Peep-through panels in the Seasonal Treasure Box show Kanayama through the year. A field map pairs circular walking routes with photographs of viewpoints. The information salon holds excavation reports and books on mountain castles and nature, available after checking in at reception. The adjoining community room is opened free when it is not privately booked; visitors also register at reception to use it as a rest space after walking.
Foothill parking and opening hours
Open 9:00–17:00, entry until 16:30, free of charge. Closed Mondays, the next day after a Monday holiday, and December 29–January 3. Ota Station is about fifty minutes on foot or ten minutes by taxi; Ota-Kiryu Interchange is around ten minutes by car. The centre's P6 lot has eleven spaces for visitors. Other municipal lots include Daikoin P1 and Kinryuji South P2. The motor-pool parking nearer the summit occupies a different location from this foothill centre.
