Anan Science Center combines daytime experiments and planetarium shows with reserved evening telescope sessions. Its two Nakagawa buildings connect hands-on science to the real sky. Plan the activity as well as the visit: planetarium tickets are sold on the day, while the regular observing sessions require reservations.

Experiments and astronomy across two buildings
The experience building contains fossils, optical illusions, large experiment equipment and a workshop room. The astronomy building has a ground-floor display area and a 113 cm telescope above. Demonstration experiments are generally free thirty-minute sessions on weekends, while paid making activities mainly run on holidays. Combine time exploring the buildings with the activities scheduled for the visiting day.
Buy planetarium tickets on the day
The seven-metre Nichia dome offers about thirty minutes of live explanation. Shows begin at 15:00 Saturdays and weekdays during school holidays, or 11:30 and 15:00 Sundays and public holidays. Tickets cost ¥100, preschoolers free, for roughly thirty to forty people first come. Buy at the experience building office from 09:30. No advance reservations; arrive five minutes before the show. Late entry is prohibited and tickets are generally nonrefundable.
Reserve the first-Saturday telescope sessions
From October 2026, regular observing is on the first Saturday only. Sessions last around fifty minutes, at 19:00/20:00 October–March and 20:00/21:00 April–September, with thirty places and advance booking. Rain or cloud can cancel a session. Pay cash: adult ¥300, high school ¥250, primary/junior high ¥200, preschool free. Register through the ground-floor astronomy entrance rather than climbing the outside stairs.
Daytime planning and the October interruption
Daytime opening is 09:30–16:00; holiday Mondays open, with closure the following day. Planetarium shows alone are suspended October 18, 2026 for maintenance. Free parking accommodates about sixty cars and three buses. Drive around ten minutes from city hall, or walk about 560 metres/ten minutes from Dejimakawabashi bus stop. Groups should consult ahead; the centre also runs school lessons separately from general visits.
Other stops in Anan
Central Tomioka, Nakagawa and Hanoura, Kuwano, and the Tachibana/Tsubaki coast involve different directions of travel. Combine time at the accommodation, daytime or evening meals, and parking for the intended facility with the next stop in the itinerary.
