最上川南岸の黒松林に囲まれた高台に立つ、和風建築の生涯学習施設です。天然木を使った室内と回遊式庭園を見学でき、呈茶は椅子とテーブルで楽しめます。茶道の作法を決めずに立ち寄れるため、建築散策に短い休憩を添えられます。

天然木を使った和風建築
設計は和風建築を手がけた中村昌生によるもので、金山杉などの天然木を使っています。館内にはホールや広間、複数の和室、研修室、本格的な茶室「泉流庵」を配置。茶室には皮付き赤松の床柱、石垣張りの障子、変化をつけた天井、つきあげ窓やにじり口があり、室内の細部から数寄屋造りの工夫を見られます。見学可能な部屋は使用状況によって変わります。
庭の流れと最上川の風景
建物を囲む回遊式庭園には約9,000本の樹木が植えられています。露地庭から続く水の流れは、最上川が四季を通じて見せる情景を表しています。黒松林と和風の建物、庭の石や水を近い距離で眺められ、庭を歩く時と室内から見る時で印象が変わります。泉流庵の名は、平泉から逃れて飯森山に庵を結んだと伝わる徳尼公の伝承に因んでいます。
椅子席で抹茶と和菓子を
呈茶は10～16時。抹茶のみ200円、抹茶と和菓子の組み合わせは600円で、注文状況により菓子が売り切れる場合があります。椅子とテーブルの席で、決まった作法は設けていません。3日前までに電話で予約すると、菓子を上生菓子にできます。和室を借りて茶会を開く利用とは別に、一杯のお茶を楽しみながら建物や庭を眺められるサービスです。
見学と貸室の時間を分ける
一般の見学は9～17時で、全館使用時は見学できません。個別の部屋が使用中の場合も、すべての部屋を見られるとは限りません。貸室の利用時間は9～21時30分、夜間は予約が必要です。貸室料金は午前・午後・夜間をそれぞれ1回分とし、例えば和室は1室2,370円です。休館は月曜、祝日の場合は翌日と年末年始。夜の貸室時間を一般見学の終了時刻と混同せずに訪問できます。

Traditional architecture in natural timber
Designed by traditional-architecture specialist Masao Nakamura, the building uses natural woods including Kaneyama cedar. It contains halls, Japanese rooms, training rooms and the Senryuan tea room. Details in Senryuan include a red-pine alcove post with its bark retained, patterned shoji, varied ceilings, a lifting window and a low nijiriguchi entrance. Which rooms can be viewed depends on their use at the time.
A garden inspired by the Mogami River
Around nine thousand trees grow in the stroll garden around the building. Water flowing from the roji tea garden evokes the Mogami River through the seasons. Pine woodland, garden stone and water can be viewed from the paths and from the rooms, offering different perspectives. Senryuan takes its name from a local tradition about Tokuni, who is said to have fled Hiraizumi and established a hermitage on Iimoriyama.
Matcha and sweets at a table
Tea is served from 10:00 to 16:00. Matcha alone costs ¥200, or ¥600 with a Japanese sweet; sweets may sell out. Seating is at tables and chairs, with no prescribed ceremony. Reserving by telephone at least three days ahead allows the sweet to be upgraded to a fresh decorative confection. This tea service can be enjoyed separately from hiring a room for a private tea gathering.
Different hours for sightseeing and room hire
General sightseeing runs 9:00–17:00 and is unavailable when the whole building is booked. Individual room use can also restrict what visitors may see. Room hire extends from 9:00 to 21:30, with reservations required for evenings. Morning, afternoon and evening are separate charging periods; a Japanese room, for example, costs ¥2,370 per period. The building closes Mondays, shifting to the following day for a public holiday, and over the year-end/New Year period.
