Hida Folk Village brings together houses relocated from across the Hida region, introducing life and work in a snowy climate. Compare roofs and beams, interiors with hearths, and tools used at home and on farms. Daytime admission and scheduled evening visits have different opening times and prices, allowing a visit to suit the wider itinerary.
At a glance
| Daytime opening | 08:30–17:00, daily |
|---|---|
| Daytime admission | Adults ¥700; elementary/junior-high pupils ¥200 |
| Daytime car parking | ¥300 for the day |
| Autumn evenings | Weekends/public holidays October 10–November 8, 2026, 17:30–20:30 |
Compare roofs, hearths and household objects
The buildings include four designated Important Cultural Properties. Look at thatched and wooden-shingle roofs, substantial beams and household equipment. Houses with a lit hearth help connect the structure with everyday use of fire. A forty-to-sixty-minute circuit provides one starting point; looking inside at working tools and room arrangements adds another dimension to the exterior architecture.
Craft demonstrations and booked activities
Ichii carving at the former Kobayashi house and lacquer demonstrations at the former Naoi house normally run 10:00–15:00. Arimichi wooden-ladle demonstrations take place on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Braiding sessions are irregular and cost ¥2,500; sashiko mat making costs ¥2,000 and requires booking. Choose between watching work and making something yourself. Pottery bookings are temporarily suspended. There is no restaurant, but visitors may eat their own food in the rest area.
Day admission and autumn illumination
Normal admission is ¥700 adults and ¥200 elementary/junior-high pupils, reduced to ¥600/¥150 for groups of twenty. Free admission with a disability certificate applies to its holder. Autumn evenings on weekends and public holidays October 10–November 8, 2026 run 17:30–20:30, costing ¥300/¥100 with free parking. Daytime opening ends at 17:00, so plan around the separate evening session.
Parking, borrowed equipment and winter footing
The village is at 1-590 Kamiokamotomachi. Daytime parking costs ¥300 for standard cars and small/medium buses, or ¥1,000 for large buses. Umbrellas and boots for wet or snowy conditions are free to borrow. Wheelchair and electric-cart loans pause during the snowy December–March period. Dogs may accompany visitors on a lead outside and must be carried inside. Allow time for walking between houses, changing footwear and negotiating steps.
