Understand coastal fishing through boats and tools
The collection follows fishing along the Bungo Channel and Hyuga-nada coast. Boats known as amibune and chankobune sit alongside oars, rudders and paddles within a collection and display totaling around 26,000 items. Viewing vessels together with their working equipment helps explain the connected tasks of going to sea and catching fish.
A nationally designated folk-cultural collection
The Kamae fishing-equipment collection is designated an Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property. Small working tools as well as larger boats preserve evidence of local livelihoods. In the cedar-built museum, compare their forms and consider how they differ from vessels visible in today’s harbors. The focus is the relationship between coastal communities and the sea.
Plan for Thursday–Sunday opening
