Cape Kamoda projects into the Kii Channel at Shikoku’s eastern tip. The lighthouse hill, rocky shore, beach and plants around Oike pond can be explored in one walk. Leave time after parking to experience both the shore-level monument and the elevated views around the lighthouse.

Look across the Kii Channel from the lighthouse hill
From the white lighthouse’s hill, look across the Kii Channel towards Ishima and passing ships. Clear conditions can reveal Onaruto Bridge, Awaji and the Wakayama side. Reaching the viewpoint involves a walk from parking via the shore and uphill steps, so allow time beyond the drive. The changing elevation gives different perspectives on the same stretch of sea.
The heart-shaped Wave Poem and the shore
Wave Poem is a stone sculpture inspired by wind and waves, with a heart-shaped opening framing the sea and Ishima. It was installed with the Kamoda stone in September 2010. A nearby love-poem monument adds another shore-level stop. Visitors can focus on this lower coastal area rather than completing the lighthouse ascent, changing position to frame the stones against the water.
Plants around Oike and the turtle beach
Oike pond near the cape’s base is known for subtropical plant communities. The northern sandy shore is a nesting area for loggerhead turtles. Plants and coastal conditions change through the seasons; in late autumn and winter, a sunrise can sometimes appear in the distinctive daruma shape. Changing plants, sand and morning light give different subjects for coastal walks through the year.
Plan the drive, walk and an onsen stop
The cape is at 1 Kamoda, Tsubaki-cho, around forty minutes by car from central Anan. Parking holds roughly thirty vehicles, followed by a walk through the coastal area. Kamoda Misaki Onsen is about ten minutes away and offers bathing and daytime café service. Fit the walking route around the separate meal and bathing hours for a coastal drive with a rest afterwards.
Other stops in Anan
Central Tomioka, Nakagawa and Hanoura, Kuwano, and the Tachibana/Tsubaki coast involve different directions of travel. Combine time at the accommodation, daytime or evening meals, and parking for the intended facility with the next stop in the itinerary.
