松本市美術館は、中央4丁目で松本にゆかりのある美術と会期のある企画を選べる館です。草間彌生の「魂のおきどころ」は通年展示ですが、全ての作品をいつでも同じ配置で見られる意味ではありません。コレクション展示と企画展のどちらを巡るかで券の料金と対象が変わります。通常は9～17時、入場は16時30分まで。月曜が休日なら次の最初の平日が休館となるため、城下町の食事や駅へ戻る移動に合わせ、訪れる日のカレンダーから鑑賞を組み立てられます。

通年の草間彌生と、会期のある写真を見分ける
「草間彌生 魂のおきどころ」はコレクション展示室A・B・Cでの通年展示です。初期から近年へと制作をたどる案内を手がかりに、気になる形や色を一つ選び、別の作品との違いを見ていけます。2026年9月19日～12月6日は、2階企画展示室で「Sustainable World ―佐藤大史・磯部昭子 ふたりの視点から―」を開催。自然と人物・日常を扱う二人の写真、投影や布へのプリントを用いる表現に目を向けられます。通年展示と企画の会期を分け、見たい展示室を選んでください。
コレクションと企画の料金、無料対象の証明を合わせる
コレクションの一般券は電子700円・窓口800円、大学生は350円・400円。高校生以下と70歳以上の松本市民は証明書を用意し、障がい者手帳の本人と介助者1名にも無料条件があります。「Sustainable World」の一般当日券は電子1,400円・窓口1,500円、大学生と70歳以上の松本市民は900円・1,000円で、コレクションの無料条件を企画展へ一律に当てはめないでください。この企画の券で3階コレクション・記念室も観覧できます。前売りは9月18日に終了しており、今から前売価格で買える案内ではありません。
16時30分の入場と、休日後の休館を先に決める
閉館は17時、入場は16時30分までなので、最終入場に着いて多くの展示を巡る予定より、選ぶ展示と鑑賞時間を先に決められます。通常の月曜休館は休日なら次の最初の平日へ移ります。写真企画の会期中は2026年11月23日が開館、翌24日が休館の案内です。館の来館案内には12月22日と12月28日～翌1月4日の休館も掲載されています。日付がある予定はその年のカレンダーで確認し、別年の臨時開館やイベント終了日を通常の営業条件へ広げないでください。
駅からの徒歩と、荷物・撮影の条件を確認する
駅・バスターミナルから徒歩約12分、横田信大循環線なら約5分の「松本市美術館」下車、タウンスニーカー東コースは約7分乗車して「伊織霊水（美術館北）」から徒歩約5分という案内です。待ち時間や発車時刻を加えて選んでください。無料の来館用駐車場は普通車67台で、街歩き全体の車を無条件に預ける場所として扱わず、用途と利用案内を確認できます。大きな荷物はロッカーか受付へ。展示室の撮影は原則不可で、許可される展示だけ現場の条件に従い、メモには鉛筆を使ってください。
中央の鑑賞から、大手の山賊焼と本庄の宿へ
大手4丁目の食事は居酒屋 一歩、本庄1丁目の宿泊はホテルブエナビスタ、中央1丁目の車の拠点は中央駐車場で比較できます。全て松本市内ですが、美術館の中央4丁目とは別地点です。一歩のランチL.O.13時30分と土曜昼休み、ホテル15時のチェックイン、中央駐車場23時30分の入出庫終了を別に合わせてください。鑑賞後すぐ食事を選ぶか、荷物を置いて夜の城下へ戻るかで、歩く順と駐車の長さを変えられます。
At Matsumoto City Museum of Art in Chuo, choose art associated with the city and exhibitions with defined dates. Yayoi Kusama’s The Place for My Soul is a year-round display, which does not mean every work is always shown in an unchanged arrangement. Tickets and prices depend on whether you visit the collection or a special exhibition. Normal hours are 09:00–17:00, with entry until 16:30. When a Monday is a holiday, closure moves to the first following weekday. Start with the calendar for your date, then coordinate viewing with castle-town food and the return to the station.

Separate year-round Kusama from a dated photography exhibition
The Place for My Soul is Kusama’s year-round display in Collection Rooms A, B and C. Use the progression from early to more recent work to choose a shape or colour that interests you and compare it with another work. From September 19 to December 6, 2026, Sustainable World: Two Perspectives of Daishi Sato and Akiko Isobe occupies the second-floor special exhibition room. Compare photographs of nature with people and everyday scenes, including projections and prints on fabric. Separate this exhibition’s dates from the year-round display when choosing rooms.
Match collection and exhibition prices to free-entry proof
Collection tickets are online/counter ¥700/¥800 for general visitors and ¥350/¥400 for university students. Bring proof for free entry for high-school pupils and younger, or Matsumoto residents aged 70+; eligible disability certificate holders and one assistant also enter free. Sustainable World’s general same-day tickets are ¥1,400/¥1,500, or ¥900/¥1,000 for university students and Matsumoto residents aged 70+. Do not extend the collection’s free-entry rule automatically to this exhibition. Its ticket also admits you to the third-floor collection and memorial rooms. Advance sales ended September 18, so those prices are no longer a current purchase option.
Plan around 16:30 entry and closures following holidays
Closing is 17:00 and entry ends at 16:30. Choose rooms and viewing time before arrival instead of assuming every display fits after last admission. Monday closure moves to the first following weekday when Monday is a holiday. During the photography exhibition, November 23, 2026 opens and November 24 closes. The visitor guide also lists December 22 and December 28–January 4 closures. Check dated arrangements against the relevant year’s calendar, keeping another year’s exceptional opening or an event’s end date separate from normal operation.
Check the station walk, luggage and photography rules
The station or bus-terminal walk is about 12 minutes. Listed bus options are roughly five minutes to Matsumoto City Museum of Art on the Yokota/Shindai circular route, or seven minutes on Town Sneaker East to Iori Reisui followed by a five-minute walk. Add waiting and departure times. The museum’s 67 free car spaces are for visitors; check their purpose and terms rather than assuming they serve an entire town walk. Leave large luggage in a locker or with reception. Room photography is generally prohibited; follow on-site terms for permitted displays and use a pencil for notes.
Continue from Chuo art to Ote food and a Honjo stay
Compare Izakaya Ippo in Ote 4 for food, Hotel Buena Vista in Honjo 1 for a stay and Central Parking in Chuo 1 as a car base. All are in Matsumoto but at separate sites from the museum in Chuo 4. Match Ippo’s 13:30 lunch last orders and Saturday lunch closure, hotel check-in at 15:00 and parking entry/exit ending at 23:30. Decide between eating after art or dropping luggage before an evening castle-town visit, adjusting walking order and parking duration.
