This small museum beside Route 4 preserves the memory of Sanbongi's lignite industry. A large block of fuel, a recreated tunnel and a surviving transport vehicle reveal another layer of work behind today's rural landscape, making it an accessible addition to a roadside stop.

Tracing Sanbongi's fuel industry
Lignite was mined in Sanbongi for many years and became an important fuel supplied to urban areas, particularly during wartime. A recreated tunnel and displays trace production through to consumption. They reveal an industrial history that is less visible from present-day roads and fields, adding another perspective to the farming products associated with the neighbouring roadside station.
The ten-tonne block in the central hall
A block weighing ten tonnes occupies the central hall. The city lists it as 1.8 metres wide, 1.9 metres high and 2.0 metres deep. Its physical scale complements the tunnel model, connecting the underground workplace with the material extracted there. Seeing a large surviving block conveys the volume of a resource once handled as everyday fuel.
A three-wheeled truck used in the mines
Outside stands a Daihatsu three-wheeled truck used during the local mining era. After examining the indoor account of extraction, the vehicle extends the story to the work of moving the fuel onward. The combination of a surviving transport machine, models and the lignite itself encourages a view of the industry as a chain of tasks rather than mining alone.
Combining free admission with a roadside break
The museum opens daily from 9:00 to 17:00 without admission charge. Adjacent Sanbongi Yamanami has local produce, snacks and a restaurant. The museum address is 63-24 Mametsuzaka; the roadside station is at 63-13. Retail runs 9:00–18:00, snacks until 17:30 and the restaurant until 16:00 with last orders at 15:30. A daytime visit fits both the exhibitions and a meal before the food service ends.
