Starting on the Nakayamadaira side
The Otani River has cut Naruko Gorge to a depth of around one hundred metres. This car park lies on the Nakayamadaira side beside the rest house, with space for 253 cars and twelve buses. It is about ten minutes by car from the hot-spring town or an hour along Route 47 from Furukawa Interchange. Autumn road congestion adds to the time needed for a visit on foot.
Vehicle charges from October 10, 2026
The paid autumn period in 2026 is October 10–November 30. Ordinary cars, including kei cars, cost ¥500; medium vehicles ¥1,000; large vehicles ¥1,500; and motorcycles, including mopeds, ¥200. The normal parking season is mid-April to late November with all-day access, followed by winter closure. Late-autumn visits involve both the announced paid period and weather-dependent seasonal closure.
The out-and-back walk to Kaiko Bridge
From the Nakayamadaira entrance, the gorge trail runs about 350 metres to Kaiko Bridge before visitors return along the same route. It opens 09:00–16:00. The separate Naruko-side section runs around 230 metres from Otani Bridge, also as an out-and-back route during those hours. These are distinct sections rather than a through-trail between the two entrances. The announced 2026 season is April 28 to late November.
The Ofukazawa loop and onward travel
The 2.2-kilometre Ofukazawa loop starts at the rest house and passes streams and changing woodland. It is open all day during its announced April 28–late November 2026 season, unlike the timed gorge descent. Both routes can close without notice because of weather. The Nakayamadaira entrance is about sixty minutes on foot or ten minutes by taxi from Naruko-Onsen Station, making it a starting point for a walk followed by a return to the hot springs.
