Town craftsmanship in four displayed floats
Four of the autumn festival’s eleven floats are displayed at a time, with three changes annually. Compare carved decoration, lacquerwork and metal ornament across the individual designs. A large portable shrine is also displayed. Seeing details in a gallery provides a different experience from watching the floats in the streets, and fits an itinerary when outdoor walking is less appealing.
Understand the spring and autumn festivals
This hall focuses on the autumn festival associated with Sakurayama Hachimangu. The spring Takayama Festival belongs to Hie Shrine and involves a different set of floats and locations. After studying construction indoors, walking through the shrine grounds and nearby streets helps place the display within the town. A gallery visit and watching a procession offer distinct experiences and follow different schedules.
