鳥取県立博物館｜自然・歴史・民俗から鳥取を知る

鳥取県立博物館は、鳥取城跡に近い久松山の麓にあり、県内の自然と人々の暮らしをまとめて学べる施設です。一ノ蔵では地形や生き物、二ノ蔵では歴史と民俗、三ノ蔵では藩と城を紹介。砂丘観光の前後に立ち寄ると、風景の成り立ちや地域の文化への理解が深まります。

At the foot of Mount Kyusho near the Tottori Castle ruins, Tottori Prefectural Museum connects the region’s landscapes with its human history. Gallery One explores natural history, Gallery Two covers history and folk life, and Gallery Three focuses on domains and castles. A visit adds context to a trip through the dunes and the surrounding city.

一ノ蔵で自然の成り立ちを知る

常設展の一ノ蔵は、鳥取の大地や海、生き物を扱います。砂丘だけでなく、大山の自然や県内の多様な環境へ目を向けられる構成です。地形や生息環境に注目してから実際の景色を見ると、旅先で見つけるものが増えそうです。

入口のクジラ骨格標本も、海に接する鳥取を実感させる展示です。展示物や解説を一つずつ追える屋内施設なので、天候に左右されにくい立ち寄り先としても組み込みやすくなっています。

二ノ蔵・三ノ蔵と休室の範囲

二ノ蔵は旧石器時代から江戸時代までの歴史と、祭りや年中行事などの民俗を紹介します。2025年に始まった三ノ蔵は「とっとりの藩と城」が主題。城跡を歩くだけでは見えにくい地域社会の背景を、資料からたどれます。

展示ケースのLED照明改修に伴い、二ノ蔵と三ノ蔵は2026年12月7日から2027年3月5日まで休室、3月6日の再開予定です。これは二つの展示室の休室で、一ノ蔵はこの告知の対象に含まれません。来館時は、一ノ蔵を含む利用可能な範囲と館全体の開館日を改めて確認してください。

常設展と企画展の料金を分けて確認

常設展は一般180円、20人以上の団体150円です。大学生以下は無料で、70歳以上の方も年齢を確認できるものを提示すると無料になります。障害者手帳等による減免や介護者の扱いは公式の対象条件を確認してください。企画展の料金を常設展料金だけで見積もらないようにしましょう。

2026年10月31日〜11月29日は企画展「名和長年とその一族」が予定され、一般700円、大学生以下・70歳以上等は無料です。会期中の休館日は11月2・9・16・24日。11月14・15日は関西文化の日により、常設展とこの企画展の両方が無料になります。展示は会期や入れ替えによって変わるため、目当ての資料がある場合は企画展の案内も確認してください。

城跡周辺からのアクセスと駐車

JR鳥取駅からは、くる梨緑コースの「仁風閣・県立博物館」停留所が便利です。ループ麒麟獅子の「鳥取城跡」停留所からもすぐ。駅からタクシーでは約10分が目安で、運行日や時刻は交通事業者の最新案内で確認してください。

市の公式観光案内に掲載されている無料駐車場は21台で、うち1台が身障者用です。収容台数には限りがあります。城跡周辺の別施設の駐車場を博物館専用と考えず、満車時は現地の誘導と公式の周辺駐車案内に従ってください。

開館日と館内の移動

通常は9時開館、17時閉館で、入館は16時30分まで。月曜や祝日翌日の休館には企画展による例外があり、夏の過去の延長開館を秋冬にも適用しないよう注意が必要です。年末年始は12月29日〜1月3日が休館です。

館内にはエレベーターや段差解消用設備、車いす等の貸し出し案内があります。移動に介助が必要な場合や利用したい展示室が決まっている場合は、事前に経路や設備の利用方法を相談すると安心です。

Discover the region’s natural history

Gallery One introduces the region’s land, sea and wildlife. Its scope extends beyond the dunes to Mount Daisen and other habitats across the prefecture. Learning about these environments before heading outdoors helps make the details of the landscape more meaningful.

Whale skeletons near the entrance offer another connection with Tottori’s coast. The indoor displays provide a place to take time over specimens and explanations, making the museum a practical stop when the weather changes.

History galleries and the partial closure

Gallery Two follows history from the Paleolithic period to the Edo period and introduces festivals and annual customs. Gallery Three, introduced in 2025, examines Tottori’s domains and castles. These displays help explain the communities behind the nearby castle ruins.

For an LED lighting upgrade, Galleries Two and Three are scheduled to close from December 7, 2026 through March 5, 2027, with reopening planned for March 6. The notice covers these two galleries and does not include Gallery One. Confirm the available areas, including Gallery One, and the museum’s overall opening calendar before visiting.

Check permanent and special exhibition fees separately

Permanent exhibition admission is ¥180 for adults or ¥150 per person in groups of at least 20. University students and younger visitors enter free, as do visitors aged 70 or older with proof of age. Check the official eligibility rules for disability and accompanying-carer concessions. Do not assume that the permanent exhibition price covers a special exhibition.

The special exhibition on Nawa Nagatoshi and his family is scheduled for October 31–November 29, 2026. Adult admission is ¥700; university students and younger visitors, people aged 70 or older and other eligible visitors enter free. It is closed on November 2, 9, 16 and 24. On November 14 and 15, both the permanent exhibition and this special exhibition are free for Kansai Culture Day. Check the exhibition page if you want to see a particular item, as displays may rotate.

Getting here and parking

From JR Tottori Station, use the Jinpukaku / Prefectural Museum stop on the green Kururi route. The Tottori Castle Ruins stop on the Loop Kirinjishi bus is also close by. A taxi from the station takes about 10 minutes; check current operating days and timetables before relying on a bus connection.

The city’s official tourism guide lists 21 free parking spaces, including one accessible space. Capacity is limited. Do not treat parking belonging to other nearby facilities as museum parking; follow local directions and official overflow-parking information when the lot is full.

Opening days and moving around the museum

Normal hours are 9:00–17:00, with entry until 16:30. Monday and post-holiday closures can have exhibition-related exceptions. Past summer evening openings should not be assumed to apply in autumn or winter. The year-end closure is December 29–January 3.

The museum provides a lift, equipment for overcoming level changes and information on wheelchair loans. Contact staff in advance if you need assistance or want to confirm an accessible route to a particular gallery.
