From songs to the world of toys
The first floor introduces children’s songs, including works connected with Tottori. Sound and exhibition spaces offer ways to explore memories as well as learn about songs and their creators. Families can look for tunes they know, while adults can share memories of songs from childhood.
The second and third floors focus on toys. Looking at their shapes, mechanisms and ways of playing reveals the design ideas behind familiar objects. Follow each area’s instructions and distinguish hands-on exhibits from items intended only for viewing.
Look for temporary displays
A mini toy exhibition marking the centenary of Kurt Naef is running in the third-floor Gallery Domu from September 19 to November 15, 2026. It is included in normal admission, with free entry for high-school students and younger visitors. Check the current display if you are interested in toy design and the ideas behind play.
Events may have separate dates, capacities, material charges or booking requirements. Museum admission does not guarantee participation in every activity on the day. Check the relevant event page if you have a specific workshop in mind.
Admission categories and the library
Adult admission is ¥500, or ¥400 per person for groups of at least 20. High-school students and younger visitors enter free. Foreign adults pay ¥250, with a passport required by the official English guidance. Check the documentation and reception procedures for disability-related concessions and accompanying carers.
Reading books and materials in the library alone is free. It offers a quieter way to explore songs and toys, but items cannot be borrowed or copied. Free library-only access does not mean admission to the exhibition galleries is free.
Getting here and validating your parking
The museum is about 20 minutes on foot or 5 minutes by taxi from JR Tottori Station. Bus options include Warabekan on the green Kururi route and Warabekan-mae on a scheduled city bus. Check outbound and return services if combining the visit with a walk around the castle area.
Museum visitors can obtain free parking by presenting the parking ticket at first-floor reception before leaving. Payments made without validation are not refunded. The outdoor lot’s standard tariff is ¥100 per 30 minutes, with entry from 8:45 to 21:00. Visitor validation should not be mistaken for unconditional free parking for all users.
Closing days and facilities for families
The regular closing day is the third Wednesday, shifting to the following day when it falls on a public holiday. There is no regular closing day in August. The current Japanese visitor guide lists the year-end closure as December 31–January 3. Check the latest notices alongside exhibition and event dates.
The museum lists a lift, ramps, and wheelchair and stroller loans. There is no restaurant; visitors bringing food use the first-floor rest area. Keep your ticket if going out, as same-day re-entry requires it.
