Takahashiya stands on the approach to Takao’s cable-car station. Pair soba and grated yam with sweets associated with the persimmon tree rising through the building. For a meal before climbing or a late lunch afterwards, account for different weekday and weekend order deadlines.

A Tenpo-era shop and its persimmon tree
Founded during the Tenpo era,1830–1843, the shop is known for a persimmon tree described as over 150 years old growing through its building. The noodles combine 60% buckwheat flour with grated yam and refined flour, rather than all-buckwheat dough. Its mountain-foot setting offers a meal before or after hiking or visiting Yakuoin.
Hot tororo soba or a cold dipping set
Hot tororo soba costs ¥1,250, while cold noodles with broth and grated-yam dipping components cost ¥1,300, tax included. The yam blend uses equal parts Yamato and nagaimo. Kakishugyoku persimmon sherbet costs ¥550 tax included. Choose warm or cold noodles and a fruit sweet according to appetite and the surrounding walk.
Order deadlines and November closures
Hours are 10:00–17:00 weekdays, last orders 16:30, or 10:00–17:30 weekends/holidays, last orders 17:00. Irregular closures include November 19 and 26, 2026. Seven-day breaks also occur in late July–early August and mid–late December. On a late descent, aim to reach the mountain foot before the food-order deadline as well as closing.
Three minutes from the station and limited parking
At 2209 Takaomachi, the shop is three minutes from Takaosanguchi on the approach to Kiyotaki cable station. Two shop spaces cannot be reserved and may be unavailable when busy. Allow for walking from a nearby paid lot if driving. Pets cannot enter. Its station-side location and hours differ from mountain-top teahouses, making a meal-only stop possible.
Other stops to combine within Hachioji
Around Takaosanguchi, walk between foot-of-mountain exhibits and soba shops; Gongen Chaya needs a cable-car journey and further mountain walking. Coordinate luggage drop, mountain meals, the parking tariff and return time for a full hike or a shorter lower-area walk. Accommodation at the foot and daytime mountain teahouses have different service hours.
