Encounter Asian art and artists’ activity
The collection explores modern and contemporary Asia through works connected with everyday life, social change and tradition. Alongside exhibitions, the museum hosts artists and researchers in residence in Fukuoka. Galleries centred on the seventh floor accompany eighth-floor exchange areas, reading resources and a children’s corner, offering several ways to extend the viewing experience.
The South Asia special and part-two admission
The South Asia special in the Art of Asia series runs September 19, 2026–January 11, 2027, bringing new/recent work and collection pieces from seven countries. Full admission is ¥1,000 adults and ¥800 high-school/university students, free for junior-high age and younger. Part two in the Asia Gallery alone costs ¥200/¥150. The ordinary gallery ticket does not cover the complete special exhibition.
Friday/Saturday evenings and building hours
Gallery hours are 09:30–18:00, extended until 20:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, with entry ending thirty minutes earlier. Building access normally continues to 19:30, separately from gallery viewing. Wednesday closure moves to the next weekday after a public holiday, with an additional December 26–January 1 break. Building admission is free; choose the ticket for the exhibition you intend to see.
Viewing and taking a break at Riverain
The museum occupies floors seven and eight of Riverain Center Building at 3-1 Shimokawabatamachi. Free lockers are provided; the museum is nonsmoking, with eating and drinking confined to the seventh-floor café. Art Café space normally opens 09:30–19:30, until 20:00 Friday/Saturday, while food sales and the shop follow separate schedules. Combine exhibition viewing with a break around the relevant opening times.
