A reconstructed wooden keep above the stone walls
The present keep was reconstructed in wood in 1933, drawing on Ogaki Castle. Explore the white-walled building and surviving hilltop stonework, then look over the town from the upper floors. The historic site has steps and stairs and is not fully accessible. Stay on the visitor routes rather than climbing stone walls or entering restricted areas.
Admission, combined ticket and seasonal hours
Admission is ¥400 for senior-high pupils and older visitors and ¥200 for elementary and junior-high pupils. A combined ticket with Hakurankan costs ¥750 or ¥400 respectively and is valid for one week including the purchase date. Standard hours are 9:00–17:00 in March–May and September–October, 8:00–18:00 in June–August, and 9:00–16:30 in November–February. Last admission is fifteen minutes before closing. Walking up from town and parking options
From Gujo-Hachiman Station, the central sightseeing area is around twenty minutes on foot, followed by about another twenty minutes to the castle. Local or highway buses to Jokamachi Plaza leave an uphill walk of around twenty minutes. The vehicle road is narrow and winding and shared with walkers. Shiroyama Park has about seventeen free spaces and the summit about twenty-five, subject to traffic restrictions. Buses, including small ones, cannot reach the summit and use paid parking at Jokamachi Plaza.
Other stops to combine within Gujo
Combine the castle and lunch at Izumisaka with a stay at Sekisuien. Walking from Jokamachi Plaza to the castle takes about twenty minutes, including the uphill approach. Plaza car parking is ¥550 per visit with separate night charges from 17:00; reserve Sekisuien’s free transfer by 20:00 the previous day.
