Discover water culture, history and craftsmanship
The museum occupies a former tax office built in 1920. Displays introduce water, history, craftsmanship and Gujo Odori, connecting local waterways and everyday life with the development of the castle town and its traditional crafts. Dance panels and videos explain the origins and movements of all ten Gujo Odori dances.
Fifteen-minute Gujo Odori demonstrations
Scheduled demonstrations are listed daily at 11:00, 13:00, 14:00 and 15:00, with an additional noon session on weekends and public holidays. There is no noon session on any day in December–February. Each lasts around fifteen minutes and features staff in yukata. Times or content may change with crowding or other conditions; groups and tours book demonstrations in advance.
Admission, castle combination ticket and closure
Admission is ¥540 for senior-high pupils and older visitors, ¥320 for elementary and junior-high pupils, and free before elementary school. A combined castle ticket costs ¥750 or ¥400 for the respective paying categories. The museum opens 9:30–17:00, with last admission at 16:30, and closes December 24–January 2. The building is not fully accessible.
Station access and parking charges
The museum is around ten minutes by car from Gujo Hachiman IC or twenty-five minutes on foot from Gujo-Hachiman Station. Highway buses stop at Jokamachi Plaza. Parking provides twenty car spaces at ¥500 for three hours and five bus spaces at ¥2,750 for three hours. Buses require advance booking and may be asked to move elsewhere during busy periods.
Other stops to combine within Gujo
Combine a Gujo Odori demonstration at Hakurankan with Sobamasa Matsui in Kajiyamachi and Yoshidaya in Tonomachi. Matsui opens at 11:00 until sold out and closes October 21 and 28, 2026. For Jokamachi Plaza parking, allow for event restrictions and separate night charges from 17:00.
