The Restored Townscape at the Ichijodani Asakura Family Site reconstructs part of a Sengoku-period castle town using excavated wall bases and building foundation stones. Samurai residences and artisans’ houses line roughly 200 metres of street. Walking through them reveals reconstructions of daily life informed by finds from the site.

A townscape built from archaeological evidence
Opened in 1995, the reconstruction places samurai residences and artisans’ houses beside the historic street. Look at the relationship between excavated stonework and the recreated structures above it. Differences in plots, house arrangements and domestic displays help explain the work and living conditions of the town’s inhabitants.
Adult, schoolchild and senior admission
Individual admission is ¥330 for adults and ¥100 for primary/junior-high pupils and visitors aged 70 or over. Groups of at least twenty pay ¥260 and ¥80 respectively. Disability-certificate holders qualify for free admission. This ticket admits visitors to the restored townscape’s paid area. The prefectural museum occupies a separate building and charges separate admission. Combine the restored townscape with a walk through the outdoor archaeological site.
Costumes, bicycles and visitor services
Paid services include costume dressing, bicycle hire and tea. Umbrellas, wheelchairs and a guide app are available without charge. A visit can focus on architecture and domestic displays or make room for a costume experience and wider exploration of the valley. Activity charges are separate from townscape admission.
Reaching the townscape and the New Year closure
Open 09:00–17:00, last admission 16:30; closed December 28–January 4. The restored townscape is about fifteen minutes on foot from Ichijodani Station. The Asakura–Eiheiji direct bus from Fukui Station’s east side stops at Fukugen Machinami. Driving from Fukui Interchange takes about ten minutes, with parking available. From the Sabae direction, the recommended approach follows Route 32 through Togo rather than the narrow mountain section of Route 238.
