From physical dialogue to quiet perception
The layout moves between a physical Dialogue Zone, an imaginative Monologue Zone and connecting Traverse spaces. Creative Musical Instruments use wood, bamboo and other everyday materials, inviting sounds made by tapping or plucking. In Forest of Darkness, visitors follow a handrail and feel objects set into the wall, using touch to imagine forms beyond what can be seen.
Reflected water and a forest of paper
Water Garden projects ripples onto the walls and ceiling with changing blue-green light, sound and a lotus-inspired scent. Fragrant Forest uses threads made from handmade kozo and hemp paper; openings in its columns bring scents and sounds inspired by Iwadeyama. Some rooms are dark, so families with children who find darkness unsettling may prefer to begin with brighter exhibits.
Admission, visit length and supervision
Admission costs ¥800 for adults, ¥400 for high school, ¥350 for junior high and ¥300 for elementary pupils; preschoolers enter free. Group rates begin at twenty people. Allow around an hour, and accompany elementary-age children or younger. Admission and café purchases require cash. Standard wheelchairs and strollers are admitted; three loan wheelchairs and two upright-seat strollers are available without advance booking.
