Jomon objects and haniwa figures
The Jomon section displays a replica of a roughly 5,500-year-old human-head-shaped clay object from Minamihadori Nakanogoki. The burial-mound section includes human, horse, water-bird and fish haniwa found at the Minamihadori Shofukuji mound. A particularly unusual flying-squirrel-shaped figure is one of the museum’s distinctive archaeological objects.
Stone pillows and medieval religious objects
Burial goods from mound 16 of the Nekosaku-Kuriyama group include three stone pillows and other carved stone objects. Medieval displays cover Fujiwara Morokata, associated with Komikado Shrine, the Osuga clan at Sukezaki Castle, and Ryushoin Temple. A 54-centimetre bronze gong from Ryushoin bears a 1516 inscription, adding context to a visit to the temple.
A domain-office model and everyday tools
Later historical displays include a model of the Takaoka domain office and a notice prohibiting Christianity. The folk section contains farming, fishing and household tools from the Meiji through Showa periods, alongside a reconstructed room layout with wooden and tatami areas. These objects introduce livelihoods, festivals and domestic life in the Tone River region.
A free museum walk from the station
The museum is at 1500 Takaoka inside Shimofusa Sports Park, about fifteen minutes on foot from Namegawa Station or twenty-five minutes by car from Narita Station. Around 400 objects form the free permanent display. Hours are 09:00–16:30; it closes Mondays, or Tuesday after a holiday Monday, and December 29–January 3. It can accompany visits around the Shimofusa district.
Other stops to combine within Narita
Central Narita and the temple, the airport area, Shimofusa and Taiei involve different directions of travel. These suggestions include other parts of the same city. Coordinate meal-order deadlines and accommodation arrival with the necessary driving or rail journeys. Related parking serves its own area and has conditions separate from a facility’s dedicated parking or guest parking at accommodation.
