The temple grounds and Sakura Sogo
The temple belongs to the Shingon Buzan school and honours Kiuchi Sogoro, commonly called Sakura Sogo. In the story preserved here, he appealed directly to the shogun for relief for the people of the Sakura domain and sacrificed his life. The main hall dates from 1921; his grave lies to the left outside Niomon gate. A visit can combine worship, a walk among the halls and museum displays.
The life-story museum’s thirteen scenes
The Sogo life-story museum tells the story through 66 figures arranged in thirteen three-dimensional scenes. These include the Jinbei ferry crossing, separation from his wife and children, his appeal and execution. The sequence provides context after visiting the sanctuary. The museum closes on Mondays, or on Tuesday when Monday is a public holiday.
Treasures and the joint admission ticket
Opened in 1935, the treasury displays personal belongings, documents, utensils, temple treasures and local archaeological finds. Holdings include a register of landholders, Sogo’s hakama and his wife’s mirror. Treasury hours are 09:00–16:00. Joint admission with the life-story museum costs ¥700 for adults or ¥400 for children, with group rates for twenty or more.
Arriving from Sogosando Station
Walk from Keisei Sogosando Station in about fifteen minutes. The temple also lists bus journeys of about five minutes from Kozunomori Station and fifteen minutes from JR or Keisei Narita Station. Driving takes about twenty minutes from either Sakura or Tomisato Interchange on the Higashi-Kanto Expressway. These approaches suit a separate temple visit or a trip from central Narita.
Other stops to combine within Narita
Central Narita and the temple, the airport area, Shimofusa and Taiei involve different directions of travel. These suggestions include other parts of the same city. Coordinate meal-order deadlines and accommodation arrival with the necessary driving or rail journeys. Related parking serves its own area and has conditions separate from a facility’s dedicated parking or guest parking at accommodation.
