Kure history through models and original objects
The central hall contains a one-tenth-scale Yamato. Nearby displays trace Kure from the naval district’s opening in 1889 through wartime and its later industrial-port development. Drawings, crew letters and digital archives explain the ship’s construction and loss. Larger objects include a Zero fighter and a Kaiten weapon. The visit brings technical history together with the records of the people involved.
Permanent admission and the Irifuneyama combination
For non-residents, permanent admission is ¥1,000 for adults, ¥300 for high-school pupils and ¥200 for primary/junior-high pupils; preschool children enter free. Groups of twenty or more pay ¥800, ¥200 and ¥100. Kure adult residents pay ¥500, while eligible schoolchildren living or studying in the city enter free with evidence. A non-resident combination with Irifuneyama costs ¥1,050, ¥350 or ¥200 and is sold here. Special exhibitions follow their own dates and admission conditions.
Science displays and the satellite’s final date
The third-floor science gallery uses full-size triple-expansion and aircraft engines alongside hands-on exhibits to explain Kure manufacturing. The library opens 09:00–17:00 and galleries until 18:00. The temporary satellite in Nakadori is a separate venue, with its final opening on December 20, 2026; a same-day main-museum ticket includes satellite entry. The main museum plans the Space Battleship Yamato Complete Records exhibition for January 30–May 9, 2027.
Arriving at the Takara-machi main building
The main building is at 5-20 Takara-machi, suitable for a harbour visit from Kure Station or the central pier. Dedicated parking is limited, with paid alternatives nearby. Tuesday closures move after public holidays, while April 29–May 5, July 21–August 31 and December 29–January 3 open daily. Accessible toilets, a nursing room and museum-use wheelchairs and pushchairs are provided. A smartphone exhibition guide supports twenty-four languages.
Other stops to combine within Kure City
