Follow habitats from upstream to downstream
Outdoor habitat tanks recreate upper/middle and lower reaches of the Banjo River. A waterfall generates current in the upper habitat, while carp, crucian carp and catfish occupy the lower one. Displays of yamame trout, gobies and medaka illustrate changing river environments. Other tanks include giant mottled eels and akame, expanding the view of local aquatic life.
Compare tropical rivers and lakes
The tropical section includes fish from South America, Africa and Lake Malawi. Beneath a glazed ceiling and plants, examples include redtail catfish, angelfish and cardinal tetras. Compare their sizes, colors and shapes with species from the local river. The information corner adds books, guides, quizzes and panels to support closer observation.
