The founder’s vision in decorative plaster
Ten nationally registered historic buildings survive, including residences, shop buildings and brewing structures from the Meiji to early Showa periods. The 1926 display storehouse uses coloured plaster reliefs on doors and under the eaves. Its upper floor presents advertising material and production tools. Roofs, wall patterns and stones in the garden provide smaller details to discover.
Ordinary access and areas opened on guided tours
The rice-storehouse hub, Settaya 6th Avenue Fermentation Museum, and the decorative storehouse interior are open during operating hours. Guided holiday visits open only the main-house entrance and the annex’s ground floor. The garden opens April–November; both garden and annex close December–March. Repairs and safety restrictions limit some areas, and other buildings are mainly viewed from outside.
Free visits and twenty-minute holiday tours
Open 9:00–17:00. Tuesday holidays move the closure to the next weekday, and December 30–January 3 is closed. Entry is free. During the spring-to-autumn tour season, local guides offer weekend/public-holiday visits between 9:30 and 15:30, lasting about twenty minutes without booking and with a ¥200 contribution per person. Reception is at the main house, and the access differs from an ordinary independent visit.
Use the rice storehouse as a Settaya starting point
At 4-6-33 Settaya, the site is around ten minutes on foot from Miyauchi Station and immediately beside municipal Settaya Parking. The rice storehouse contains local information, a shop and a café using local rice and fermented ingredients. Bus parking requires booking at least one week ahead and is limited to two hours. Nearby brewing-culture places such as Joh-Gura can be combined with the buildings and a meal stop.
Other stops to combine within Nagaoka
Use adjacent Settaya Municipal Parking and add Aoshima by Miyauchi Station. Hotel Mets provides accommodation at Nagaoka Station. The garden and annex close in winter, the lot gates close at 17:00, and Aoshima Miyauchi Ekimae is scheduled to open October 23–26; match the route to the season and date.
