大津市内で組み合わせる訪問先
大津市内で観光と食事、宿泊や駐車場を組み合わせる際には、次の施設も選べます。
Lake Biwa and the environment on the second floor
The second-floor Life and Nature area explores Lake Biwa’s origins and wildlife, alongside Shiga’s rocks and fossils. A touchable globe, lakeshore ecology, the life of ayu fish and plankton displays connect the local lake with the wider environment. The Kids Tunnel offers blocks, books and other materials specifically for preschool children and their guardians.
Try light and forces on the third floor
The third-floor science area encourages visitors to touch and operate equipment. Mirrors and optical illusions sit alongside electromagnets, levers, a vacuum apparatus and a ball coaster. Compare each result with nearby illustrated explanations to explore the principle behind it. An advanced-technology corner displays actual products developed by local companies.
Exhibition tickets and the planetarium renovation
Exhibition admission costs ¥200 for non-resident adults and ¥150 for school pupils, or ¥150/¥100 for Otsu residents; preschoolers enter free. Keep the ticket stub for same-day re-entry. Planetarium shows are suspended from October 5, 2026 until around spring 2027 for refurbishment, so ordinary show times do not apply during this period. Preschool children need an accompanying guardian in the exhibitions.
Opening hours and shared free parking
Exhibitions open 09:00–16:30, last entry 16:15. Monday holidays open followed by the next weekday closure; third Sundays, December 29–January 3 and maintenance days also close. Walk about seven minutes east from Keihan Zeze-hommachi or twenty minutes from JR Zeze. The centre’s shared car park is free with around 180 spaces. Groups arriving by bus require advance reservations.
