Oyasuba Historic Park pairs reconstructed burial mounds with galleries explaining excavated objects and ancient life. Its sponsored name is Kageyama Komuten Oyasuba Shiseki Park. Play areas and activities allow a visit built around archaeology, hands-on making or outdoor time. The building, grounds and two car parks keep different hours, which matters when choosing the order of a visit.

See the mound shape and excavated objects
The group contains one mound with rectangular front and rear sections and four round mounds. Reconstructed Mound 1 is about 83 metres long and dates to the later fourth century; Mound 2 is roughly 15 metres across and dates to the later fifth. The area containing them is a National Historic Site. The centre displays excavated objects and tools from Koriyama’s Palaeolithic, Jomon and Yayoi periods, including reconstruction of a vessel from small pottery fragments. Visit indoors before inspecting the mounds outdoors.
Individual bead-making and the announced price change
Individual activity reception is 09:00–11:20 and 13:30–15:30. Bead-making takes about sixty minutes, shaping stone with abrasive paper: white ¥200 or coloured ¥500. White stone rises to ¥300 per piece from January 2027, while coloured remains ¥500. Fire-making takes about thirty minutes and dressing in reconstructed ancient clothing about twenty, both free. Events can interrupt bead-making, while bad weather, strong wind or extreme heat can cancel fire-making.
Different schedules for grounds, displays and play areas
The centre opens 09:00–17:00 with last admission 16:30; Monday closure moves to the next day on holidays, and December 28–January 4 closes. Grounds have no regular closure and open 08:30–19:00, shortened to 17:30 October–February. The children’s play area near the centre closes on centre-closure days and may also close in bad weather. Use steps and handrails on steep mound sections and keep off the grassy slopes rather than climbing them directly.
Two car parks and departure deadlines
The first car park, in front of the centre, opens 08:30–17:15 and is unavailable on centre-closure days. The second by the adventure area opens 08:30–19:00, shortened to 17:30 October–February, and is locked with the grounds. Combined capacity is 120 cars and 7 buses. Take a Higashiyama Cemetery/Yomogida-direction bus from Koriyama Station stand 2 to Kanaya, then walk about twenty minutes. If staying outdoors after the galleries, return before the chosen car park closes. No smoking; take rubbish away.
