A 1913 residence in two architectural styles
Completed in 1913 for the second Seiroku Moroto, the residence includes a Western house designed by Josiah Conder with a four-level tower. The Western and Japanese houses are Important Cultural Properties, and the pond garden is a nationally designated scenic site. The inner-entrance lobby displays fifty forms of Kuwana linked paper cranes and local crafts. A crane-making activity costs ¥200 per session, with the finished work taken home.
Admission categories and the autumn combined ticket
Admission is ¥460 for high-school pupils and older visitors, ¥150 for junior-high pupils, and free for primary-school and younger children with accompaniment. Groups of twenty or more pay ¥390/¥70 in the two paid categories. Disability identification admits the holder and up to three accompanying people free. A ¥750 combined ticket for high-school pupils and older visitors is planned for November 7–December 6, 2026, during Moroto Garden’s autumn opening. Younger visitors use each site’s ordinary admission arrangements.
Enter by 16:00 and allow for closing days
Opening is 9:00–17:00 with entry until 16:00. Closed Mondays, or the next weekday after a holiday Monday, and December 29–January 3. Wear socks indoors; slippers and indoor shoes are not permitted. Pets cannot enter, apart from assistance dogs and similar permitted working dogs. The historic buildings have steps. Limited wheelchair access to the Western house’s first floor and Japanese house’s wooden corridor depends on advance arrangements and two or three companions able to assist with moving the wheelchair.
Walking from Kuwana Station and using free parking
Walk about twenty minutes from Kuwana Station’s east exit or ten minutes along the embankment from Tamachi bus stop. Free first-lot parking operates 9:00–17:00 on Rokkaen opening days; the second lot operates 9:00–17:00 daily except over New Year. The second lot is one-way with separate entrances and exit, and coaches require advance arrangements. Both close at 17:00, so include the return to the car when adding a riverside walk.
Combine Kuwana visits, dining and a stay
Combine Rokkaen with a Senbacho stay or an Edomachi meal. Both garden parking lots finish at 17:00, so plan the return to the car before extending the town walk into dinner.
