Brewing history in a Taisho-era storehouse
Historic photographs, labels, drinking vessels and tools introduce Yoshinogawa’s brewing heritage since its foundation in 1548. Films and a digital brewing game add interactive elements to the free displays. The visit takes place in Joh-Gura’s museum spaces; it does not provide a tour through the interior of the working sake-production brewery.
The paid sake bar and craft brewery
The standing-style sake bar offers regular and museum-exclusive sake, snacks, craft beer and nonalcoholic choices. Last order is 16:00 and payment is cash only. The on-site Settaya craft brewery is visible through glass, with brewing activity depending on the production schedule. Its beer uses the sake brewery’s water and rice koji and is available at the bar and shop.
Opening at 9:30 and group reservations
Open 9:30–16:30, closing Tuesdays and year-end/New Year. A Tuesday public holiday moves the closure to Wednesday. Ordinary visits need no booking, while groups of ten or more must reserve in advance. The shop accepts cards, PayPay and transport IC, distinct from the cash-only bar. Interior ramps and a multipurpose toilet support wheelchair and stroller users.
Ten minutes from Miyauchi and municipal parking opposite
Find the museum within Yoshinogawa at 4-8-12 Settaya, about ten minutes on foot from Miyauchi Station or fifteen minutes by car from Nagaoka Station. Municipal Settaya Parking opposite offers around forty free car spaces, open 9:00–17:00. Combine the neighbourhood walk with the bar’s 16:00 cutoff. Exhibits, shopping and nonalcoholic menu choices provide a visit for motorists.
Other stops to combine within Nagaoka
Combine Johgura with Aoshima Miyauchi Ekimae for exhibitions and food around Miyauchi and Settaya. Settaya Municipal Parking closes its gates at 17:00, while Hotel Mets at Nagaoka Station suits rail-based stays. Aoshima Miyauchi Ekimae is scheduled to open October 23–26; check its day-specific plan separately from Johgura’s Tuesday closure.
