Chinese-style noodles in Japanese stock
Maneki’s ekisoba combines yellow alkaline noodles with Japanese stock. Tempura or sweet-savoury fried tofu adds a topping to the noodles and broth. Otemae also serves udon and rice dishes.
A station dish named in 1949
After the war, when wheat flour was scarce, early noodles combined konjac and buckwheat flour. Experiments eventually led to the present Chinese-style noodles. Named ekisoba on October 19, 1949, the dish was first sold by vendors on Himeji Station platforms, followed by platform stalls and later shops around town.
Choosing tempura or fried-tofu toppings
Standard listed tempura and kitsune ekisoba bowls cost ¥550 each, with a large tempura bowl ¥620. The tempura contains small shrimp, while kitsune uses sweet-savoury fried tofu. The range also includes curry ekisoba; availability and prices may differ between branches.
A street-level stop in Shiroganemachi
The shop occupies the first floor of Otemae Parking at 68 Shiroganemachi, around ten minutes on foot from Himeji Station. It opens 10:00–18:00, normally without a regular closing day. This is separate from the JR platform shops and accessible outside the station gates. It has no dedicated customer parking; paid car parks are nearby.
