After walking through the temple grounds, visitors can rest in a Taisho-era building overlooking a Japanese garden around a koi pond. Tea-room time combines naturally with a temple walk among seasonal roses or lantern displays. The cafe’s closing time remains separate from the later gate closure on special evening-opening dates.

A tea room beyond Enku Garden
The tea room occupies a Taisho-era building at the rear of Ofusa Kannon. The tourism association identifies it as a palace-style tea house built in 1915. Beyond the approach and flower-lined temple areas, it offers a seated place to look out over the garden. Enku Garden follows a strolling arrangement around a koi pond and underwent restoration in the Meiji period. Its position lets visitors turn from the busier temple areas towards water, planting and a quieter refreshment stop.
Tea at a temple associated with roses
Drinks include rose juice associated with the temple’s roses, herbal tea and matcha. Refreshments are enjoyed in the historic room while looking at the garden. Fluffy shaved ice is a summer offering rather than a year-round menu item. Seasonal planting adds changing colours, while the pond and trees also reward a visit outside peak flowering. Tea-room hours are 10:00–16:30, with last orders at 16:00. Visitors exploring the temple first should allow time to reach the garden-side cafe before that ordering deadline.
Lantern displays in October 2026
The lantern festival runs October 7, 2026–June 23, 2027, with free entry to the grounds and more than 2,500 lanterns. For the autumn festival, some red lanterns at the front are removed October 16–18, with restoration planned October 19. Special evening illumination on October 24 and 31 extends gate closure from the usual 17:00 to 21:00. This concerns access to the grounds and does not mean the tea room serves until 21:00. Daytime refreshments and viewing the evening lanterns should be planned as separate parts of the visit.
Approaching from the second parking lot
Yamato-Yagi is twenty-five minutes away on foot; Ofusa bus stop is about five minutes away. For driving, enter Ofusa Kannon Second Parking Lot as the navigation destination and approach west from the Nawate-cho junction, avoiding the very narrow route from the Ofusa junction. On weekends, holidays and busy events, only the second roadside lot is available, costing ¥500 and around five minutes from the temple. This differs from ordinary free-parking conditions. Toilets are inside the temple gate on the right, not in the lot. If full, use directed alternative parking rather than waiting on the road.
