Ohama Park’s main paid parking serves walks around the park and old port as well as sports visits. It opens at 06:00 but finishes at 22:00, making the departure deadline worth setting before an outing that continues towards the waterfront in the evening.
At a glance
| Hours | 06:00–22:00, excluding civic Olympics and fish-festival dates |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 265 ordinary cars and 5 large vehicles |
| Ordinary cars | Up to 2 h ¥200; then ¥100/h; daily cap ¥600 |
| Medium and larger vehicles | ¥1,000 per visit per day |
The main parking for the park and old port
Opened in 1879, Ohama is a municipal park with an arena, baseball ground, sumo facilities and Sotetsuyama hill. The main parking has 265 ordinary-car spaces plus five for large vehicles and minibuses, totalling 270. Leave the car in its bay for walks through the park and towards the old Sakai lighthouse. Sotetsuyama’s first-order triangulation point stands at 6.97 metres, adding a short climb to the outing. Sports facilities have their own opening and admission arrangements, separate from the charge for leaving a vehicle.
¥200 for two hours and a ¥600 daily cap
Ordinary cars cost ¥200 for up to two hours, then ¥100 for each additional hour, capped at ¥600 for the day. This accommodates a brief walk or a longer sports or spectator visit. Medium and larger vehicles instead cost ¥1,000 per visit per day, rather than following the ordinary-car hourly tariff. Full fee exemptions are available on presentation of eligible physical, intellectual or mental disability certificates, listed medical beneficiary certificates or Mirairo ID. Bring the required proof and arrange the concession before payment.
06:00–22:00, distinct from baseball-side parking
The main area normally operates 06:00–22:00 throughout the calendar year, excluding the civic Olympics and fish-festival dates. A separate baseball-side area has 70 ordinary-car spaces and opens only on weekends and holidays from January 4 to December 28, 08:00–17:30, extended to 18:30 during the July 20–August 31 pool period. These are different entrances, capacities and closing times. Keep the main parking as the chosen destination rather than relying on the weekend-only area, and allow enough time to walk back before closing.
Ohama expressway access and Sakai Station
The address is 4-3-50 Ohamakitamachi, Sakai-ku, near the Bayshore Expressway’s Ohama exit and about five minutes by car from the Sakai Line’s Sakai exit. The park is also roughly 550 metres west of Sakai Station, making a walk from rail practical. The monkey enclosure, reconstructed radio tower and historical monuments provide several stops within the park itself. Follow pedestrian routes towards the port for a waterfront extension. For major-event dates or an itinerary continuing after 22:00, public transport can be the more suitable arrival method.
More places for a Sakai visit
Combine the port town’s central streets and historic shrines with suburban museums or parks, allowing for meal, hotel and parking hours.
