At Amaharashi, beach, rock and pines frame Toyama Bay and the Tateyama mountains. Views across Onnaiwa, legends around Yoshitsune Rock and the coastal Himi Line give the area its character. Mountain visibility depends on weather, while beach approaches differ from viewpoints beside the road.

Onnaiwa, sand and mountains across the sea
Onnaiwa rock forms a foreground to the roughly 3,000-metre Tateyama range across Toyama Bay. Shore pines and pale sand complete a landscape associated with Manyoshu poetry. Yoshitsune Rock preserves a legend that Minamoto no Yoshitsune waited here for rain to clear while travelling towards northern Japan, giving Amaharashi its name.
Clear winter views and dawn sea mist
Clear weather around November–March favours snowy mountain views, with afternoon front lighting helping define the ridgeline. Dawn offers a backlit atmosphere. Around 5:00–8:00 in winter, warm seawater meeting cold air can create sea mist, or kearashi. It requires suitable conditions such as light winds; neither visible mountains nor mist is guaranteed by sunshine alone.
Western park, Yoshitsune Rock and viewpoints
Principal photography areas include the western park towards Himi from the station, the Yoshitsune Rock area opposite the roadside station and the station’s viewing decks. Some shore approaches involve a railway crossing and steps. Watch for trains and uneven ground. Keep off the western park’s stone jetty and choose viewpoints from the land-side walking areas.
Arriving by the Himi Line or by car
Walk about five minutes from Amaharashi Station or drive about fifteen minutes from Takaoka-kita Interchange. Use the roadside station’s free parking. On busy sunny weekends, the second lot and temporary lot roughly two hundred metres towards the railway station provide alternatives. Nearby roads serve residents and emergency vehicles, so roadside parking is prohibited. The railway also offers coastal views from the train.
Other stops to combine within Takaoka
Amaharashi combines shore and roadside-station views with an Isohanabi stay. Views depend on weather and the inn’s station transfer requires contact. Ohnoya is in central Yamachosuji, requiring a railway or car journey for gifts. Coordinate coastal parking demand, the sweet shop’s 19:00 closing and meals at the inn.
