日当山西郷どん村｜復元家屋と日本庭園、足湯を巡る日当山散策

日当山西郷どん村は、西郷隆盛が日当山を訪れた際に滞在した龍寶家を基に建てた「西郷どんの宿」を中心に、日本庭園、足湯、物産館を備える入場無料の施設です。JR日当山駅から徒歩約5分で、温泉地の散策に組み込みやすい場所。復元家屋の見学と庭園、地元の品物の買い物を一か所で楽しめます。

Hinatayama Segodon Village is a free-entry visitor site built around Segodon no Yado, a house reconstructed from the Ryuho family home where Saigo Takamori stayed during visits to Hinatayama. It includes a Japanese garden, footbath and local-products hall. About five minutes on foot from JR Hinatayama Station, it combines house viewing, a garden walk and local shopping with a stroll through the hot-spring district.

1．「西郷どんの宿」と庭園を見学する

「西郷どんの宿」は、西郷隆盛が日当山で逗留した龍寶家を基に建設された見学施設です。茅葺きの家屋と日本庭園を巡り、西郷と日当山温泉のつながりに触れられます。

庭園には、西郷が馬をつないだと伝わる「西郷どんの一ツ葉」があります。池のある庭園、家屋、足湯、物産館が集まった構成で、入場料をかけずに周遊できます。

2．施設ごとの時間と全館休業日

西郷どんの宿と特産品販売所は9時～17時30分、足湯は10時～17時です。朝に家屋の見学から始める場合、足湯の利用開始は1時間後となります。

全館の休業日は第1水曜で、祝日に当たる場合は翌日です。年末年始は12月31日～1月2日が休業となります。物産館内のレストランには、これとは別に毎週水曜の定休日があります。

3．足湯と家族向けの設備

足湯は庭園と物産館のそばにあり、家屋の見学や周辺散策の間に立ち寄れる場所です。入場無料の村内で、庭園を歩く時間と足湯の10時～17時を組み合わせて過ごせます。

施設にはスロープ、多目的トイレ、授乳室、おむつ交換台があり、車いすの貸出にも対応しています。ベビーカーの貸出はありません。

4．日当山無垢食堂のランチと買い物

物産館「日当山無垢食堂」には、地元食材を中心にしたレストランと特産品販売所があります。ランチは11時～14時30分、ラストオーダー14時で、朝食の提供は当面休止されています。

レストランは毎週水曜と年末年始が休みです。特産品販売所の利用時間は9時～17時30分で、ランチの注文受付より長いため、食事の後に買い物を組み合わせられます。

5．日当山駅からの徒歩と列車運休日

JR肥薩線日当山駅から徒歩約5分、JR隼人駅からは車で約10分です。車では溝辺鹿児島空港ICから約15分が目安で、日当山温泉周辺を巡る際の立ち寄り先にできます。

肥薩線の吉松～隼人は、2026年11月25日・12月23日、2027年1月27日・2月24日に線路工事による日中の一部列車運休が予定されています。日当山駅に停車する列車も対象で、バスなどの代行輸送はありません。

6．駐車場とバス団体の利用

無料駐車場は普通車約65台と大型バス3台分です。周辺案内図には第1～第3駐車場が示され、第2駐車場にバス用の区画があります。

1. Explore the reconstructed house and garden

Segodon no Yado is a visitor building reconstructed from the Ryuho family home where Saigo Takamori stayed in Hinatayama. Its thatched house and Japanese garden introduce his connection with the hot-spring district.

The garden includes Segodon no Hitotsuba, a tree traditionally associated with Saigo tethering his horse. The pond garden, house, footbath and products hall are grouped together within the free-entry site.

2. Facility hours and site-wide closures

The reconstructed house and products shop open 09:00–17:30, while the footbath opens 10:00–17:00. For a morning visit beginning with the house, the footbath starts one hour later.

All facilities close on the first Wednesday of the month, moving to the following day if that Wednesday is a public holiday. The New Year closure is December 31–January 2. The restaurant in the products hall has an additional weekly Wednesday closure.

3. Footbath and family facilities

The footbath sits beside the garden and products hall, offering a stopping point between house viewing and nearby walks. Combine a garden stroll within the free-entry village with the footbath’s 10:00–17:00 hours.

Facilities include a ramp, multipurpose toilet, nursing room and baby-changing table, with wheelchairs available to borrow. Strollers are not available for loan.

4. Lunch and local shopping at Hinatayama Muku Shokudo

Hinatayama Muku Shokudo contains a restaurant centred on local ingredients and a shop selling local products. Lunch is served 11:00–14:30, with last orders at 14:00; breakfast is paused until further notice.

The restaurant closes every Wednesday and over New Year. The products shop opens 09:00–17:30, longer than lunch ordering hours, allowing shopping after a meal.

5. Walking from Hinatayama Station and train cancellation dates

JR Hinatayama Station on the Hisatsu Line is about five minutes away on foot; JR Hayato Station is about 10 minutes away by car. Allow around 15 minutes by car from Mizobe-Kagoshima Airport Interchange when combining the visit with the Hinatayama hot-spring area.

On the Hisatsu Line between Yoshimatsu and Hayato, track work is scheduled to cancel some daytime trains on November 25 and December 23, 2026, and January 27 and February 24, 2027. Trains calling at Hinatayama are affected, and no replacement bus or other transport is provided.

6. Parking and visits by bus groups

Free parking accommodates about 65 cars and three large buses. The area map shows three parking areas, with bus spaces in the second car park.
