Collections connecting Kuwana history, art and crafts
The predecessor municipal art-and-culture museum opened in 1971; the present museum opened on October 1, 1985 as Mie’s first municipal museum. Collections cover Matsudaira Sadanobu, the Kuwana domain, old and later Banko pottery, tea utensils, paintings and local ukiyo-e. The first floor has exhibition and gallery rooms, while the second has another exhibition room and a literature room. Changing exhibitions introduce different aspects of local culture.
The Masuyama Sessai exhibition
“Masuyama Sessai and the Lords of Ise-Nagashima” runs October 24–November 29, 2026. The first display period ends November 15 and the second begins November 17, with a display change. Admission is ¥500 for high-school pupils and older visitors, free for junior-high pupils and younger children, or ¥400 per person for groups of twenty or more. Disability identification admits the holder and one attendant free. This differs from the usual ¥150 admission for the paid category.
The 16:30 entry cutoff and opening calendar
Usual opening is 9:30–17:00, last admission 16:30. Closed Mondays except holidays, and the day after a holiday except Sundays, plus New Year and installation periods. Upcoming closure dates during the 2026 special exhibition are November 9, 16 and 24. Curator talks are scheduled November 7 and 22, 13:30–14:00, with no booking and only the admission charge required.
Walk fifteen–twenty minutes from Kuwana Station
The museum stands at 37-1 Kyomachi beside Kyomachi Park, a fifteen–twenty-minute walk from Kuwana Station’s east exit. Sanco’s Kuwanashi Hakubutsukan stop is another option, and free parking is available for drivers. When combining the museum with the castle site or old Tokaido streets, work backward from the 16:30 final admission. Interior visits are unavailable during installation closures.
Combine Kuwana visits, dining and a stay
When combining exhibits with Akasuka lunch, plan around Hamakaze’s 13:00 last orders. Add a station-area stay, budgeting Chuomachi parking separately from the museum’s own parking.
