Walk through the former main and second compounds
The approximately 7.20-hectare park uses Kuwana Castle’s former main and second compounds. Also known as Ogi Castle, it stood in a town connected with the Tokaido road and water transport. Walking among the site’s waterside spaces helps locate the former castle within today’s city. The keep site is also listed at 5-1 Yoshinomaru and forms part of exploring the castle grounds.
Seasonal flowers and Chinkoku Shukoku Shrine
Cherry trees and azaleas line the grounds. Around 450 cherry trees are described, including Somei-yoshino, weeping cherries and mountain cherries, with an annual April cherry-blossom festival. Chinkoku Shukoku Shrine honours Matsudaira Sadatsuna and Matsudaira Sadanobu. Combine a seasonal flower walk with a shrine visit connected to the castle’s history.
The waterside castle site and surrounding stone walls
Extend the castle-site walk toward Sannomaru to see surviving Kuwana Castle walls. About 500 metres remain between the Kawaguchi sluice area and Minami Ote Bridge and are designated a city cultural property. The masonry includes rough natural stones, dressed stones and blocks bearing marks. Allow separate walking time between the park and the Sannomaru walls to explore the wider former castle town.
Five minutes from Tamachi and nearby paid parking
The address is 5-1 Yoshinomaru. From Kuwana Station take a bus toward Nagashima Onsen to Tamachi, then walk about five minutes. The park has no dedicated parking. Drivers can use nearby Kakiyasu Community Park’s paid lot. Treat the walk and parking hours separately, allowing time to return if adding the museum or old Tokaido streets.
Combine Kuwana visits, dining and a stay
Follow the castle-site and riverside walk with an Edomachi meal and a station-area stay. Community Park Parking finishes at 18:00 in October and 17:00 from November; match the meal and return to the car.
