A 1930 building and the story of Yonago Castle
Built as city hall in 1930, the building became a municipal cultural property in 1977. Displays include a reconstructed model of Yonago Castle and a shachi roof ornament associated with its major 1852 repairs. The ornament measures 1.03 metres high and weighs 75 kilograms, bringing the scale of a roof-top feature close to the visitor. Combine the architectural exterior with exhibits explaining the castle’s appearance and the town that developed around it.
Everyday objects and the October 2026 exhibition
Permanent displays cover castle material, railway history and objects from modern everyday life, with contents changing over time. A special exhibition on Yonago Castle runs October 4–31, 2026. Before or after exploring the ruins, use the displays to understand buildings and objects no longer visible on site. Permanent admission is free; special-exhibition charges depend on the programme. Fit the displays you want to see into the dates of a walk through the old town.
The November closure and last-entry time
The museum closes from November 1, 2026 until further notice while rooms are organised and collections moved ahead of renovation. No reopening date has been set. Before closure, ordinary hours are 09:30–18:00, last entry 17:30. Regular closing days are Tuesdays, the day after public holidays and December 29–January 3, with possible exhibition-period openings. For November onward, plan around the extended closure and other city attractions rather than the usual timetable.
A fifteen-minute walk and parking validation
At 20 Nakamachi, the museum is around fifteen minutes on foot from Yonago Station. Alight from buses at Shiyakusho-mae; driving from Yonago Interchange takes roughly fifteen minutes. Bring a City Hall parking ticket inside for up to two hours’ validation. A courtyard accessible bay is available, and advance telephone arrangements can allow a vehicle to approach the front entrance for visitors with walking difficulties. A ramp connects the forecourt with the first floor.
