Uchii architecture and Takaoka art
Founded in 1951, the museum moved here in 1994 to a building designed by Shozo Uchii, collecting and presenting metalwork, lacquer, painting and sculpture. The open Art Hall, courtyard and snow-rope-inspired Tower of Light and Water define the architecture. The second-floor Fujiko F. Fujio Hometown Gallery operates as a separate facility, with separate admission from the museum’s temporary exhibitions.
Contemporary art through November 29
ART☆MILKY WAY: Taguchi Art Collection runs September 19–November 29, 2026, presenting about fifty works from Keith Haring and Yoshitomo Nara to recent production. Admission is ¥1,500/adult, ¥1,200 for ages sixty-five-plus or adult groups of twenty or more, ¥800/high-school or university student, ¥640/student group, with younger pupils free. High-school students with ID enter free November 3. Ticketed visitors can join gallery talks October 24 and November 7, 14:00–15:00.
Regular hours and the two parking areas
Open 9:30–17:00, last entry 16:30. Closed Mondays or the next weekday after holidays, plus December 29–January 3. Underground parking has eighty-three spaces, operates 9:00–18:00 on opening days, offers two hours free and has a 2.2-metre height limit. Overnight stays and out-of-hours entry/exit are unavailable. The outdoor Bunka-no-Mori lot has one hundred forty free spaces. Accessible ramps, toilets and loan wheelchairs/strollers are available.
November 1 restrictions and rail arrival
Walk two minutes from Etchu-Nakagawa, ten from Hirokoji tram stop or about twenty from Takaoka Station. For the Toyama Marathon, nearby roads are restricted November 1, 2026, 6:30–10:00. Bunka-no-Mori parking closes from October 30 at 18:00 through October 31; on November 1 its lower area opens from 11:00 while the upper area remains closed. Underground parking becomes available at 9:30, when the museum opens as usual.
Other stops to combine within Takaoka
The art museum is near Etchu-Nakagawa, New Otani and Otaya parking in the city centre, and Kakinosyo in Ono. Allow travel between them when combining exhibition, meals and accommodation. Account for November 1 museum-area road restrictions, the seafood restaurant’s 14:00 lunch-order deadline and Otaya’s daytime-entry trial.
