Look across Tsubasa Pond through telescopes
The observation hall overlooks Tsubasa Pond, Mount Daisen and the wooded grounds of Awashima Shrine. Window-side telescopes are free to use, with rangers and volunteers helping visitors operate them and find birds. Species and numbers change with the season and daily conditions. Protected areas are closed to entry, so combine viewing through the windows with permitted paths, maintaining distance from the wildlife. The provided equipment allows a visit even without bringing your own binoculars.
Migration displays and accessible indoor routes
Exhibits explain research on Bewick’s swan migration and include an old nest brought from the breeding grounds. Aquariums introduce local fish and turtles, while another room displays bird specimens. A ramp reaches the observation hall; two loan wheelchairs and an accessible toilet are provided. The outlook hall is reached by several steps and includes a children’s corner. Specimens and audiovisual displays complement the birds outdoors, broadening the visit into an introduction to wetland ecology.
Admission and early winter opening
Nature-centre admission is ¥310 for adults, ¥200 for foreign adult visitors and groups of at least fifteen paying visitors, or ¥1,500 for a named annual pass. Junior-high pupils and younger children, visitors aged seventy or over and eligible disability-certificate holders enter free. Normal hours are 09:00–17:30; November–March weekends and holidays open at 07:00. Tuesday holidays shift closure to the next day; days after holidays also close unless a weekend. December 29–January 3 is normally closed, with any special New Year opening scheduled separately.
A twenty-minute walk from Norikoshi
At 665 Hikona Shinden, the sanctuary is around ten minutes by car from Yonago Station, fifteen from the airport or twenty from Kaike. Bus route 45 towards Shimo-Yoshizu takes about twenty minutes to Norikoshi, followed by a 1.4-kilometre, twenty-minute walk; it does not stop at the entrance. Visitors with walking difficulties may drive carefully along the park approach to the accessible-permit parking beside the centre. Choose transport with both the journey and the final walking distance in mind.
