民宿 山女魚荘は、五家荘の樅木で、山の食材と小さな宿の滞在を楽しむ場所です。標高730メートルの山里にあり、主人が育てるヤマメや、狩猟で得たイノシシ・シカなどを料理に取り入れています。市街地のホテルとは異なる、山間部で一晩過ごす旅を組めます。

小部屋・大部屋と一棟だけの離れ
本館は1～4人用の小部屋4室、3～6人用の大部屋1室です。離れは一棟のみで、冷暖房を備えた和の空間に、専用トイレ、室内バス、露天の岩風呂があります。人数が多い家族や仲間で同じ部屋を使うか、離れで過ごすかを選べます。館内には囲炉裏もあり、昔ながらの山里の住まいに近い雰囲気です。チェックインは15時、チェックアウトは10時で、山歩きや周辺の見学と食事の時間を合わせて泊まれます。
川辺川源流のヤマメとジビエ料理
五家荘に端を発する川辺川源流の水を使ってヤマメを養殖し、その魚を料理に取り入れています。主人が山で獲るイノシシやシカを使ったジビエと、四季の山菜なども宿の特徴です。料理内容は季節で変わり、同じ品がいつでも揃う固定メニューではありません。ヤマメの甘露煮、燻製やフランクフルトなどの加工品も紹介されています。海沿いの日奈久や中心街での魚介料理と違う、山と川の食材を楽しむ宿泊にできます。
栂の丸太風呂と家族での入浴
露天の「栂の刳り風呂」は、大きな栂の木をくりぬいた浴槽です。内風呂には石タイルと磁器タイルを使った浴室があり、屋内からも外の景色を眺められます。男女別の浴場を備え、家族風呂としての利用も可能です。離れの専用風呂と、本館側の浴場は設備が異なります。木を使った浴槽の雰囲気や、山里の景色を感じながら過ごせることが特徴です。露天では川のせせらぎを聞き、夜には空を眺めながら入浴できます。
樅木の所在地と山で過ごす旅
泉町樅木106-2にあり、無料駐車場とWi-Fiに対応しています。熊本市からは高速道路を使わず車約2時間、福岡から約3時間30分と案内されています。登山を支えるプランには、人数に合わせたマイクロバスの送迎サポートもあります。夏のヤマメつかみ取り体験は7月中旬～8月末を基本とし、悪天候や増水時は中止する場合があります。秋に訪れる場合は夏の川遊びとは分け、五家荘の見学と宿での食事を中心に山里の時間を取れます。

Yamamesou is a small inn in Momiki, Gokanosho, offering mountain ingredients and an overnight stay in the settlement. At around 730 metres, it serves trout raised locally and dishes using hunted wild boar and deer. It provides a base for spending the night in the mountains instead of returning to a city-centre hotel.

Small rooms, a larger room and one cottage
The main house has four smaller rooms for one to four people and one larger room for three to six. A single detached cottage provides air conditioning, a private toilet, indoor bath and open-air rock bath. Choose between sharing a room with family or friends and staying separately in the cottage. An irori hearth adds the atmosphere of an older mountain home. Check-in is 15:00 and checkout 10:00, allowing local sightseeing or walking to be fitted around meals and the stay.
Trout from headwater streams and game dishes
Trout are raised using water from headwaters of the Kawabe River and feature in the inn’s cooking. Wild boar and deer hunted by the proprietor, alongside seasonal mountain plants, are further specialities. The dishes change with the season rather than following an identical fixed menu throughout the year. Products such as sweet-simmered trout, smoked items and frankfurters are also introduced. The stay offers mountain and river ingredients alongside the coastal seafood experiences available elsewhere around Yatsushiro.
The hollowed-log bath and family bathing
The open-air hemlock bath is carved from a large tree trunk. Indoor bathing areas use stone and porcelain tiles, with views outside. Separate men’s and women’s baths are provided and can also be used for family bathing. These differ from the cottage’s private facilities. The timber tub and mountain setting are the main attractions. Outside, listen to the river during the day or look towards the sky after dark.
Momiki location and a mountain stay
At 106-2 Momiki, Izumimachi, the inn offers free parking and Wi-Fi. Guidance gives about two hours by car from Kumamoto without expressways or three and a half hours from Fukuoka. Walking-support packages can include minibus transfers according to the group. Summer trout-catching experiences normally run from mid-July through August and may be cancelled for poor weather or high water. For an autumn visit, plan around Gokanosho sightseeing and meals at the inn separately from those summer river activities.
